I've been working on the font. Here is an A-B comparison:

Which one is looking best?

Definitely A. B looks like it's missing anti-aliasing or something.

I like B. Feels bolder and easier to read

"A" seems to be the existing Verdana font or very similar.
"B" (Calibri ?) has two improvements, to my eye/brain:
1. "B" upper case is more condensed, a lighter font, and with less kerning. Thus it scans faster and is more readable. ("A" is more E-X-P-A-N-D-E-D, bolder and thus slower to discriminate letters and scan.)
2. "B" lower case has a slightly thicker line width with 2x pixels, so higher contrast and readability. The "B" lower case is also a bit more condensed and the design leads my eye better from letter to letter, thus I 'grok' words faster. ("A" has a thinner line width so I always had some diffraction with the background on my monitor.)

Just had another look.. Just to confuse things. I like B better on the buttons, tracks and racks. I prefer A in the parts with the light green background e.g. the tempo, cue point, focussed module.

This is pretty clear to me, I agree with Michael L -
A: Seems very similar to how MuLab is now, maybe slightly clearer? Honestly, not much of a difference for me.
B: I like this style - it is bold and crisp, looks petty good. But it also matters what the fonts are on : buttons, menu's, etcetera. It would be nice to have options there.
Delighted you are working on this Jo!

Had another look.
Weird stuff. The word "Bass" on the second track looks better in B but the word "Drums" in the first track looks better in A. Overall, I'm still with A - the bold version is more clearly bold and the letters do not feel so cramped, which makes them easier to read ("m" vs "rn" for example I'd expect to be much clearer in A -- the centre stile (if that's the right word; can't find it defined now) in the "m" of "Drums" is very faint in B, far clearer in A).
Is everyone on LCD screens or is anyone still on CRT, by the way, as that'll make a huge difference.

Honest opinion ~ don't see much improvement personally, sorry Jo.
I appreciate the work you're doing on this, but I'm finding it difficult to see if there's any benefit from static pictures. There's currently no way to test fonts so can't see if these are better in use.
I don't suppose you can release a version 6 update that could allow us to try out these fonts? Probably not that's fair enough though.
I think for me it's the spacing between letters that is the worst problem. As pljones said, 'm' and 'rn' are a problem. But also t, i, l, when together can sort of blend together and make you pause longer to read correctly. Other combos of vertical letters also seem to blend together.
Thanks for the effort
