I don't care what it looks like - it's a sequencer, not a beauty contest

does it sound better than v1 ?(hard to believe that it could as v1 sounds excellent)
is it easier to use ? (that wouldn't be all that hard)
is it a free upgrade ? (hopelessly optimistic here)

Weird

Geist is the best sampled drum solution out there bar none, but the GUI was a total headfvck.

They seem (on first glance) to appear to have made it worse. :/

This is only true to a certain point. There are a few people who can truly live by that and use incredibly terrible UI's because the outstanding product they access via the awful GUI. But, my experience is that even people who say they don't care about the interface gravitate towards "pretty" UI's ... your definition for pretty will be somewhat different, but not that much different.

Well, Strobe 2 actually sounds better, both in the basic sonic character and the included plugins. So even though you are using audio samples as the primary source of audio, my guess is that all of the signal path improvements should provide some audible upgrade. Probably not as large as in the synth arena though.

Exactly why the new GUI is important. The old GUI is powerful but difficult to traverse and manage. The NOS flat approach to the interface should allow some improvements to feature access. Obviously we won't know for a bit if that is the case. But I'm hopeful.

It will surely be free for all to buy if they want to!

+1 That new GUI is horrid
Play it by ear

I know they talk about scalable UI, but will Geist 2 finally show me more steps in larger GUI size without scrolling? Bug the hell out of me everyone I try to sequence something over 32 steps (or god forbid some 24 or 48 steps)

Post

Is that an actual Geist 2 preview from fxpansion?

For a good sized GUI, some of the text is so tiny... some of the knobs too! Bit scary!

Geist 2 is an instant upgrade for me regardless...

They have to pack a lot of things in the UI though.

So I suppose its the price to pay for a certain complexity.

I really hope they fix Geist's biggest weakness with this release: Sample browsing/auditioning in Geist 1 is just about the worst I've ever seen in a drum sampler (perhaps tied with Arturia Spark/Spark 2).

I build all my own kits from scratch as part of the arrangement phase of every project, and while I think Geist 1 has some wonderful features (as does Spark!), attempting to build kits with it while auditioning live MIDI is just painful.

If they figure that out with this version, I don't care what it looks like.

The browser in general in Geist was a huge step backwards from Guru.
Honestly the lack of coherence from Guru to Geist made getting into Geist pretty much a total pain IMO.
I haven't messed with Geist since getting Maschine, there really isn't any comparison there.

Plus I'm sick and tired of crap upgrade policies, Geist was offered for $125 to registered Guru users, so I didn't even use my upgrade path, I got Geist on sale for $26 cheaper shortly after.

One more thought, do they really need to redesign the interface and workflow for the third time? I don't get what they're hoping to accomplish there? "Learn our new way of doing the exact same thing and pay us for the privilege of starting over again."

It's more a monochrome GUI and they avoided colors where possible. This very clean look is not bad but there is something I don't like.

let me guess... the gui ? :D

The early beta of strobe (V1) looked a lot like this, its just a layout temple whilst they code, I am sure the final product will look a lot nicer. Never been a Geist fan, but I LOVE Tremor, and that never seems to get any updates :-(

No, not the complete GUI... this monochrome thing is not bad but all looks a bit cluttered. Maybe the controls/faders or stuff don't fit very well with the rest of the GUI.

Do you expect them to work for free?
