Export bug (but there is a workaround)

OK, nothing serious, but this took me some figuring out.

When exporting to a MIDI file, if there are any filters in the master fader section, the export fails (i.e. no MIDI file is created at all). I had Kjaerhus Classic Master Limiter + MDA Dither in my master filter and until I removed them, no MIDI would be created. This is despite un-checking "apply filters to midi data".

Workaround - 1. Save. 2. Remove the master filters, 3. Export to MIDI, 4. Then exit Tracktion without saving

Talking about midi files, I find that all of the tracks get exported to a single midi track. The individual midi tracks don't export as seperate tracks, making the exported midi file useless.

Is this happenning to you?

It worked propperly in earlier versions.

It's not a big issue. If you import it into say, Cubase SX, you can seperate the tracks again easily.

Found the same thing a while back, kind of annoying.
Actually, I couldn't get any midi to export if ANY filter existed in the edit.

I've been trying to export some sequences from Tracktion PC into Digital Performer the last few weeks and have found other oddities as well. I don't have another sequencer on PC here to test out with, but I'm assuming the problems are with Tracktion because exporting a midi file from DP and importing into Tracktion works fine.

1. Patch changes: I'll have insterted 1 patch change at the beginning of a track in Tracktion, in DP my event list shows several patch change messages in the first measure of the track, sometimes repeats of the same patch number, and other times some random patch number.

2. Same exact issue with volume (CC7)

3. Track names don't get exported correctly. It ignores the given track name and insterts GM (?)patch names for the program that's called up in that track.

4. Tempo: All my tempos are doubled up in DP. Not that big a deal I guess, just annoying, (freaked me out the first time I played back in DP and my song played back in 3 seconds). Might have to do with the fact that DP lets you assign a note value to BPM, whereas Tracktion assumes quarter notes?

5. Random controller values such as volume, patch and tempo change are placed at points way beyond the end of the clip. They don't show up in Tracktion, but in DP for example, I'll have temp changes at measure 450 on all 16 tracks when the end of the song is at measure 80.

ALSO....

If I have seperate tracks in Tracktion that play back on the same midi channel, they will get combined into one tarck when I export. THis might be the most annoying.

Well, I decided to try importing a midi file into Tracktion that was exported from Tracktion. Same problems as importing into DP.

INteresting.
