There was a discussion going on over in this thread about copying bits from one song to the next, and I mentioned that tracktion does have the ability to copy tracks from one song to another. what would be handy though, would be some ay to view the content of an edit without having to open. In this case, a track of the edit. But given that an edit is an XML file, it would be conceivable to have a tree hierarchy of everything currently in the edit on the projects screen. Something like:

Code: Select all

Edit 1
  -Rack filters
     -filters in rack filters
  -Tracks
     -Filters on track
     -clips in track
         -Filters on clips
Edit 2
Clips not in an edit (orphan clips)

this would be a lot cleaner than the current list of audio files and edits in no particular order, would give access to both midi and audio clips from the projects screen, and (since you can copy things from the project screen) would make the kind of 'cannibalism' that Shane mentioned entirely fluid.

I suppose I should suggest it for ver. 2, but I honestly (albeit ignorantly) think this could be implemented in ver. 1.x

Just a thought, any suggestions? comments from Jules? (hallowed be his name ;)

I like.
The object-based design of Tracktion, is one of the things i like most about working with it. I'm a copy-paste, drag-n'-drop addicts, and nothing feeds my habit better than T. But because Tracktion can open only one edit at a time, copying between edits/ projects is a bit cumbersome.
This tree hierarchy thing solves it.

When selecting an item in the edit, it should be selected in the tree and vice versa. When switching views, the selceted item should be visible (the view should focus on that item). This can be used for managing/ navigating very large projects
(Go to project view, select track number. selcet clip name, switch to edit view), and help locating mis-named or obscured items.
