Why post a Moog video in the u-he forum?

Post

Since Hans has collaborated with u-he, I see no problem with this video, I find it interesting. I dig Moog Modular stuff. I looked at a Moog module a few weeks ago, about 1 foot square, they wanted $10,000US for it. Too pricey in my opinion. Not really sure what it does, but I think it had a filter (amongst other stuff) from what I remember. I think I see Zebra in the still photo.
You can hear my original music at this link: https://www.soundclick.com/artist/defau ... dID=224436

Ah, Clint Mansell. Loved his "pi" soundtrack.

@3:39 Hans quote is spot on.

I think the original video was 48 minutes long, but Moog cut the u-he related stuff out before they posted it on their YT channel.

Why does he buy one of those limited synths, taking it away, let's say, from me, although he own a freaking complete Moog modular system from the 70s??? Gee... Hans, stop buying stuff and let us get our hands on the cool stuff too

I snagged a couple of Carlos and Tomita LPs from a thrift store this week. Wow, that sound. $10K is a lot for a few oscillators, envelope generators, filters and amps, even if they are hand made. But how much would a sax player pay to get a brand new VI, if that was possible. Flutes? Violins? Pianos! And while the 15 lacks the capabilities of the pricier 35 and 55, it's basic raw analog tone may have a bigger kick. (probably because the power supply source has to push fewer modules.)

Still think U-he's Ace is a real gem. (Wish the Modular-V had the same filter code as Diva.)

The problem I have with the system is that the only parts that matter are the VCO, VCF and VCA. The rest are dime a dozen CV sources. But, they aren't currently producing just single modules.

You can pay $8k for the Moog Sequencer, or $800 for what is actually a better 960 from synthesizers.com. Both are expensive ... but one more reasonable than the other.
If you have to ask, you can't afford the answer

me too. So I waited some years until I got some money together and bought an Eurorack system with Endorphin.es and Mannequins modules. Monophonic though. For the polyphonic stuff there's Diva and string synth samples and/or synths.

well the wild thing is that Moog went out tracking down original components used when they last built these things back when. a lot of which are pretty scarce at this point, supposedly limiting the current run. definitely not the most cost effective way of recreating these things. to the degree that these new systems are genuinely authentic and just how important that is to a musician is totally subjective. you definitely can find a whole lot more bang for the buck.

I understand why the price is what it is. It's just that for CV purposes it's pointless other than "collecting".
