They're the ones in the eMacs at work (i think) and they've been working overtime. Rock solid.

Ive got two Pioneers ( a 105 in the DAW and a 106 at work) but you'll find a couple of brands cheaper, with slightly more features. One of those that Ive used, and which Ive found to be OK for CDRW's is LiteOn.

I did some research both on web and friends who owns since i'm interested in geting one, and the results are:

1. Plextor px-712A (because of quality and speed both on read/write)
2 Plextor px-708A (same as 712 but only 8x dvd rec)
3. Nec 2510a (very good write quality but not so good at reading) - also a good budget option and with a firmware upgrade write Dual Layer (8gb) dvds too.

i'll go for a PX-708A

My Pioneer 106 recently burnt out due to much (miss)use. So I've replaced it with a NEC-ND2500A and chucked in a Lite-on DVD rom to get around the reading issues. I'll probably flash the NEC to dual layer once the discs become affordable.
