MuLab: MuDrum routing drums to different racks

Ok, so took the plunge and thought I'd try out MuLab for this OSC. I'm not on Mac but I thought it might be a chance to see if it's for me or not :)

So... This is perhaps not the MuLab way of doing things but I loaded up a MuDrum patch I had created in Mux where I route different drums to different racks which I then want in my main mixer. How would I go about that in MuLab? The Racks will only recognize Output 1. I tried just dropping the MuDrum in the modular area but then I instead had no success making it respond to events.

Is this not possible or only possible by odd routing?
Could I then request multi-channel racks? :)

EDIT:
Ok, I got it working by having a rack sending event output to a MuDrum in the modular area. But this way I need to open up the modular if I want to tweak the MuDrum... Hrm... Any more recommended ways of going about this?

First a MuDrum contains 4 racks already. Those you can fill with any MUX or VST and you can route any drum to any of these racks.

Second you can take each drum (the part on the right side of a MuDrum) and copy/past it into it's own mixer rack (the copy is found under the Options button at the top right). Note that in this case the drums are pitch sensitive.

Yes, but then I cannot see each part in the mixing area...

Yes, but then I need to route a lot to make it playable from just one midi source...

I guess I'm a bit old fashioned :)
I opted for the way I found, putting it in the modular area and routing through a dummy rack. Multi channel racks would be great for this sort of thing!

How would you handle multi out VSTi:s?

Post

You put a multi-out VST in a MUX and sub-mix it down to a stereo out to the main desk.

Indeed using the MuDrum multiple outs is the same as when using a VST with multi outs.
Pls see the section about "Using multiple inputs and outputs" on http://www.mutools.com/info/docs/mux/us ... ugins.html

NB: I understand there is room for improvement and i'm working on that with M7.

Yes, it's just that both solutions seems limited and disruptive of workflow to me. Putting it in a Mux makes it impossible to side chain eg a kick with another track and a hassle to solo kick and bass when mixing.

Putting it in the modular area makes it a hassle to tweak and edit the instrument in question.

Multi-channel racks would solve this in a rather elegant way, I'd argue.

I agree with you that there is room for improvement, i'm working on that now within the M7 R&D phase.

Note that once the MuDrum is assigned to a track you can double click the track icon to edit the MuDrum. So if i think you best go for a MuDrum in the Modylar Area and create racks for its outputs there so you have all visibility and control over it.
