Hi, Ive been doodling, what do you think of this....an idea for having some automation visible on top of the track, could be turned on/off with a button (to fill up some of that space on track headers)
You do not have the required permissions to view the files attached to this post.

Superb! Nice mock-up too. Love the idea, but what if there's more than one type of automation? How would you show several different automation types?? Maybe different colour lines for each type?

I was thinking along the lines, where I have put the VOL button could be a "mouse hover or right click" area > popup menu > select whichever automation you have previously setup, only need to show one type at once so it doesnt get messy. Even if its just for the volume would be a good thing IMO, it would cut down on the amount of tracks that fill up the screen space.
Its only an idea though, Im not complaining about how it is at the moment and have no idea how easy/hard it would be to implement or even if it would be welcome.
EDIT
This would be for MIDI as well as audio ideally

I see, yeah I like it, it's great idea, keeps things simple and as you say reduces track count. I'd welcome it, great idea bibz

Or... how about allowing any sub-track to ghost over the parent track when in a "collapsed" state - just add a checkbox on the subtrack.

Personally, I like how MuLab handles automation already and don't think it's an area that needs attention. I don't mean to put down your mockup as I think it's great that users are passionate enough about the product to go to the effort. However, I think that looks like how many other daws do automation. I've never liked having automation overlayed over the track. To me looks confusing and messy. I prefer how MuLab does it. Just my opinion.

No problem, I do know what you mean.
Its that sometimes when on the Compose screen, if zoomed in enough to see each midi note it, would be nice and quicker to match the note to the automation visually, without opening up an editor.
The on/off button would mean it doesnt have to be too messy.
Its not a feature request as such, just thinkin out loud I suppose.

Ah ok. Now I see where you're coming from. Useful for percussion.. . Touchebibz1st wrote: Its that sometimes when on the Compose screen, if zoomed in enough to see each midi note it, would be nice and quicker to match the note to the automation visually, without opening up an editor.
Indeed. Like I said, it's great that users are bringing ideas to the fore.bibz1st wrote: The on/off button would mean it doesnt have to be too messy.

Acid had a similar way of displaying automation, I found it useful. In MuLab it would definitely need the facility for the user to select what was displayed in each individual track. I'd vote for it

I think if Jo has seen this and he's interested he'll get on it but M7 is probably well under way at this point.

Indeed i'm working on the M7 plan, which does not include this FR. After M7 has been released we can re-evaluate things and research the most wanted next steps. I have no idea yet when M7 will be ready. Going step by step. I hope to share a first intermediate test version within a month so that the parts that are already there can be tested & evaluated. But lets see how things develop, sometimes difficult to estimate.
