I know... Some projects I actually program Java against Google Closure compiler AST and it's insanely compact minification.goatgirl wrote:I'll just leave this here : http://jsbeautifier.org/TeotiGraphix wrote:IMHO javascript is really hard to make money from if you don't run it through a minimizer/obfusticator.
My point was javascript is not compiled.

On a side note, in the browser world, javascript bytecode is in planning stages, so my comment will be obsolete in a couple years but, you can still decompile about everything that was written by a human.

... actually I would say that backwards compatibility is not the responsibility of the script's creator, but of the API's ditto, that is: BitWig. If they don't change the API, the script should work the same in 1.2 as in previous versions. This may not mean that newly introduced features are supported, but the original features (those demonstrated in the video and documentation) should still be supported without any changes.goatgirl wrote:
Will it work with Bitwig 1.2?
It would be my guess, that BitWig would go quite far to keep this backwards compatibility, as they would make their own (and other "commercial") scripts useless otherwise.

Hi !
I'm happy to see that my topic interess so much people !
I agree with all of you.
There's a good work in this script in particular the launcher (maybe too much because there're more functions than buttons can support) but the price is too high. I was only wondering about what is the policy of Bitwig with the selling of script. You can consider that Bitwig have done the tools to make it so if you sell your script you have to pay royalties or sell your rights on it to Bitwig for a fair price. The problem that i don't really understand is what is your right in a such "Open API".
Note : I notice that the true download's link of the script (the one you get after payment) must be in his website since you have to return on it after you paid (the website is indicated in the download's link of the video) so if someone is smart enough, he can get the script for free. The vendor doesn't seem like pro in terms of security.
Thanks for all your replies !

Bitwig has created an API to allow controller scripting. If you write a script against that API then you own copyright of the script and can sell it, give it away, whatever you want. It's yours. Exposing an API into your program does not, in any way, give you any rights to peoples code who use that API. Enabling such a thing would be an economical disaster.
On another point you made. If you obtain this script without paying for it then that's theft. If you pay for the script, reverse engineer it and take bits of code to make your own script that is also theft.

... even though it is actually not true, that the download it self is on the vendors site (it is actually quite well protected), I would say, that it surprises me, that KVR does not filter out such an urge to commit software theft.Pantamis wrote:Hi !

I really think this thread should be deleted or, at the very least, those posts which suggest stealing this software. Regardless of how you feel about the price requested, you don't have the right to steal and redistribute his work. That's just ridiculous!
That being said... BiggerWig, how do you sleep at night!? Is this a major source of income for you or something? It's disgusting that you would charge such an exorbitant price for this. Even more disgusting that someone would actually purchase it but hey, a fool and his money and all. It's just awful for your karma though! Perhaps if you were just a little more giving, you wouldn't see the need to do this.
It would seem to me that 20 customers at $10 would be more desirable than 2 customers at $49. Anyone that bought that keyboard probably isn't the type that would throw that kind of money at a script.
And one other thing BiggerWig, stop throwing the word "commercial" around when referring to Bitwig's scripts. "Enhancing sales"? Products become commercial by charging a price to obtain them. Not because they enhance another product. Of course you want to use some controller with a DAW. By your logic I guess grocery bags at the supermarket are commercial , too? Stop it.

Hi guys !
I will open a new topic to announce it but I wrote a control script for the launchkey 49 and 61 with a clip launcher !!
There are not so much features as in the script above but I think it is clearly easier to use and better for live performance !
You will find my script here : https://github.com/Pantamis/Bitwig-Launchkey-61
Enjoy !

Look, I understand that Bitwig is relatively new and small, and Novation Launchkey Mini is not the best selling product on the planet, but how are consumers supposed to trust EITHER company if their products are not cross compatible?
SOLUTION: Bitwig, Novation, BUY THE SCRIPT from the guy who made it and make it free. I bet you guys can talk him down to $500 and split it.
Sincerely,
Your customers
