Was almost going to buy Tracktion recently, but ended up picking up Sonar 3 yesterday. They came through with a $50 off sale ($149 altogether for me) and I went with that.
I really liked working with Tracktion, and will definitely keep my eye on how it develops in the future, but I was looking for something for recording VSTi (Garritan Personal Orchestra in particular). Having tried both the Tracktion demo and Sonar 3 demo, Sonar still had quite an edge as far as ease of use and performance. It may just be my system in particular, but the difference was quite noticeable.
Not at all to dis Tracktion. In fact, quite the opposite. It was a close second for me, and probably as much or even more worth Sonar considering the price difference between $80 and $149 (and to me, was definitely more worth Sonar without the price break offer), but as long as I could swing the $149, I felt Sonar was the better buy for me right now, especially having video support, as I've been doing some scoring work lately.
I've actually plugged Tracktion over at the GPO forums a few times as an excellent lower end sequencer that works well with GPO, and I posted a tutorial for it. Here's the link to the tutorial if it's of any interest or use to anyone here.
Congratulations to Jules and Mackie for creating a great new entry in the sequencer market, and hopefully Tracktion V2 makes me want to buy that more than upgrade to Sonar 4!
Best,
Shaz
