I've been experiencing lots of crashes in T6.2.3 32 bits in Win7 lately.

I suspect it's because of problems with (dodgy?) plugins since some projects work fine and some don't, but I haven't been very active lately, so I'm not sure if problems have been introduced by new versions og T6 and/or plugins, or if something in my system's suddenly started to malfunction (which would be strange).

For troubleshooting purposes: has anyone got any experiences (good/bad) with the following plugins in T 6.2.3?

Prime suspects
- Any Korg Legacy plugins (particularly Wavestation)
- Interrruptors Analogic Delay
- Variety of Sound Nasty VCS

Possible
- EZ Drummer 2 (I get an error message for running more instances than I have memory for. Can this make projects freeze/crash later on?)
- Studio Devil VBA Pro and Studio Devil BVC

Unlikely
- Scuffham S-Gear2
- SQ8L
- Variety of Sound Density II

Any experiences/comments welcome.

Crashes tend to happen when:
- closing edits
- exporting/rendering (finished)

A major PITA is that whenever Tracktion shuts down involuntarily, it's impossible to turn of the process in Task Manager, or when I try, I get the blue screen. Does this happen to everyone, or is it just my system?

My understanding is that an app cannot blue screen windows any more, only a device driver can. So it might be worth checking your sound card drivers (and possibly graphics drivers) are up to date (or what's generally held to be stable versions, if the latest are considered flakey)

You can usually kill hung processes in task manager using process explorer, from sysinternals (now owned by microsoft), if task manager can't kill it

Plus, if you're not familiar with the logfile, it can be found via the Help button. It may give clues to which plug-in is causing the failure. You can also send it to support@tracktion.com and it may help them to help you.

Thanks to both of you. I have studied the log files, and it doesn't give anything close to a clear indication of what's causing the crashes. i suppose thatt could indicate that it's a device problem, although since I haven't made any changes in that department for ages, it seems strange. I don't know if any updates to Windows/Tracktion may have led to some sort of incompatibility. Better check for new drivers, but at least the EMU 0404 USB I'm running seems to have been abandoned long ago in terms of driver updates.

Any more comments/experiences/suggestions are appreciated.

If you can get it to blue screen again, take a photo of the message, or write down as much as you can from the message. It should list a driver, maybe called something like xxx.sys or whatever, and a hex code. You can use both to figure out what's actually blue screening. It might be something weird that you don't expect, but the blue screen gives you a certain amount of info to look into. You definitely should send your logs to support, and see what they think, even if they don't seem too verbose to you. They'd know the next step, if what they need isn't there in the logs

Someone did a utility that gives English reporting (saved to a file, IIRC) on BSODs rather than the Hex and Latin mixture that often briefly flashes before one's eyes. Might be a Sysinternals or NIR one. I'll see if I can find it, but it'll have to be later. Or you could beat me to it and Google it first!

Praparing data for support, I looked through the log file again and found I'd overlooked the entry "Plugin crashed: SQ8L", so perhaps we have a culprit after all. A shame if it doesn't work in T6 - lots of useful sounds in a free synth. Hopefully avoiding SQ8L will be the solution.

IIRC, Korg Wavestation crashed T6 in an earlier project. Does that mean I can give up using Korg Wavestation (and the rest og the Legacy suite) in T6? Or can anyone confirm that they're using these plugins without problems in T6? If they can't be used in T6, I need to try to recover part of the investment.

Ultimately, all plug-ins should work. If there are any problematic ones, TSC often (generally? always? erm?) attempt to consult the plug-in's authors to get it resolved.

There may be older unsupported plug-ins with problems that won't be resolved (for example, with some Mackie ones, the source code went missing), but for ones that are not free, it's in the interests of its authors and TSC to fix any problems.

TBH, your best bet is to contact TSC through the support email, with your log file, and contact the plugin vendor direct, ask what they need, and hope they talk to each other. You're unlikely to be able to troubleshoot / work around plugins not working in a host

Took your advice, got no response at all in 1 1/2 months, so it's probably safe to say they've ignored me. Looks like my best course of action now is to try to sell Korg Legacy and no longer take for granted that premium brand plugins will work in T6.

Hang on ... I noticed there was a Beta release in October. Among the changes it says "Fixed pluging compatibility issues" or something, so I installed it and ... it looks as if Korg Legacy works! At least I haven't been able to provoke a crash yet. If it's fixed that's excellent response from support, although it would be helpful to get a message.
