I had this happen quite a while ago with plugs that had previously worked fine. I removed them from the ignore list and they worked fine. Go figure!Lunch Money wrote:It's really weird, because the plugins in the ignore list are ones that were never ignored before.
Tracktion blatantly IGNORING me!

I've had this happen too. For example, sometimes when I'm rendering an Edit to file and wanted to give the file a different name than the default. The first time I clicked the "..." button to browse to a location and enter a name, everything worked smashingly. Then I tried to render a different Edit, the default name came up as the same as the last one and the "..." didn't do anything.Lunch Money wrote:I've noticed this weirndess in the past couple days-- Sometimes when I pick file-related commands, Tracktion simply won't execute them. There won't be a crash, but it won't do what I request.Greg
I haven't installed the new version yet though...

Greg,Lunch Money wrote:For what it's worth:
The quality (or lack thereof) of the material was such that using the volume automation was highly inconvenient for any number of reasons. And yes, I tried. Here's the main list:
1. I would need 2 or even 3 volume plugs to get some of the passages up to an acceptable volume level. No way am I going to automate that many.
2. I had to move phrases around here and there to get them to fit. Better to have the whole .wav at the right amplitude to begin with, and Audacity was much quicker than automating the volume and then rendering a new file from within Tracktion
3. Using Audacity, I had *visual* cues for amplitude with some words relative to others. Ie. if I boosted too much (and the next word over was SUPPOSED to be louder) I could hit "undo" and then amplify with less gain.
I love Tracktion, but sometimes you have to know how to use the right tool for the job, rather than forcing another tool to do it just because you "can" if you try hard enough.
Greg
If Jens' solution doesn't work for you (it does for me, when I'm using Tracktion in issoluation, which I often do) then I think another option is to consider a better audio editor than the Audacity freebie.
I've recently been playing with a demo for Adobe Audition (the full version costs around $299, which is not a snip, but IS cheaper than Sound Forge or Wave Lab). Having had a play I think its' more useful than those other editor programmes, for a variety of reasons, but not least because the workflow is quite similar to Tracktion, and the two make a good pair.
New to version 1.5 of Audition (which was formerly "Cool Edit Pro") is full ReWire implementation, which I think is unique among audio editor programmes? Also it is VST host, can record up to 128 audio tracks (32 at one time), control external MIDI, etc.
The audio editing tooks are awesome, and the effects are very professional.
It also does looping/timestretching/pitchshifting, which I think Tracktion is rather weak at as of the moment.
As an audio editor within Tracktion ("Edit using...") or as a Rewire device in tandem, this could be an excellent solution.
If its not for you fair enough, but I'm seriously looking at getting myself a copy, and I recommend checking out the demo (which you can download).
It sounds like you are looking for high standard of audio recording and editing, and that you have rigorous expectations, so investing in the programme could be worth every penny...

I think Adobe audition also now has CD burning included in the package as well.

Hi there christianmusicmaker!christianmusicmaker wrote:I think Adobe audition also now has CD burning included in the package as well.
Yes you're right - it does have CD burning now, so if nothing else it's worth getting for wave editing and as a comprehensive pro mastering and burning application.
It really does seem very intuitive to use - like Tracktion - So I think it's set to join my Tracktion/Reason/Live set-up.
By the way, I've not got very far with Project 5 yet... but I'll keep you posted!

Thanks for confirming it AD80.AD80 wrote:Adobe Audition has the best interface out of any editor IMHO. Its an extremely poweful app. I love hitting control-w and having my clips show up in AAheadquest wrote:

I'm surprised the 1.5 update hasn't had more press - I've not seen it mentioned in CM magazine, but it looks like a seriously hot product, what with ReWire and all. Definitely on my shopping list!

I agree that I'd prefer a better audio editor. I've longingly looked at Audition, and it looks superb. Unfortunately, at the moment I can't even afford Elevayta Space Boy ($12.95), so audio purchases are out for me right now.
I actually don't have too rigorous of needs-- The only two functions I use in Audacity are "Remove Noise" and "Amplify".
If I seem picky, it's only pointing out a 'wish list', but I can function fairly fine with Audacity, which is amazing for freeware and keeps getting better.
Still, Audition WOULD be sweeter than sweet.

As is Audition 1.5. So neither will be slave. But that makes sense when you think about it, because with Audition's 128 track capability and integrated CD burning, it naturally sits at the centre of a project (as does Tracktion its its own, different way.)AD80 wrote:Nope. Tracktion's a Rewire master.rpc9943 wrote:ha! awesome! i bought cool edit pro right before it became audition and the upgrade, I use both! Can i rewire tracktion into it???
RonC
ReWire works best IMHO when you take a programme like either of these two and slave your "Software Studio" type and loop based programmes (i.e. Reason, Project5, FL Studio, Ableton Live, etc.)
Audition works within Tracktion as the designated audio editor (works great, in fact), and you can export your WAV from Tracktion and import it into Audition for final mastering and CD burning.
It only seems a bit of a pity that you can't slave Tracktion within Audition to use its' MIDI sequencing capabilities.
Does anyone know if T2 will work as a ReWire slave?

I think Jules has mentioned that Tracktion isnt really designed to be able to do that. I for one hope he concentrates on adding more features instead of implementing that. I dont mind having AA as my editor inside Tracktion. Tracktion's an excellent multi-track recorder so doing it in AA wouldnt make sense to me. Just MHO tho.headquest wrote: Does anyone know if T2 will work as a ReWire slave?

So if you were producing a track that comprised only audio recording, would you use Tracktion (for project management, arranging, etc) and Audition (as an editor within Tracktion, and for mastering/burning) or just do it all in Audition?AD80 wrote:I think Jules has mentioned that Tracktion isnt really designed to be able to do that.
