But why isn't it for purchase anymore? Updates for something that isn't sold makes me confused.
IIRC, This version was in beta for years.. they just finally pushed it live.
Not completely true. Freeze was in beta for some time as were some bug fixes. Other bug fixes and the newly added FX are properly new.

They've been talking about 8.6 since last year officially on the forums.. and have been working on a closed beta for a few years since 8.5 -- I'd call all the accumulations 8.6

It has just now seen the day of light officially.

Looks like Fat space is brand new though.. which is strange.. for a product not even purchasable anymore. But ok.. welcome here!

Hi

I never upgraded to V8 - I have V7.6 (or something) - although this update (especially the bug fixes) looks good, the upgrade price from V7 to v8 is $100 which considering the lack of future development needs to be 'chewed over'!

I feel bad lucky, considering my other DAW of choice is XTV2!

If you enjoy 7.x I'm pretty sure you'll enjoy 8.6

That said, have you considered what other hosts (that are still developed) you can buy for your 100 dollars? Maybe you can find something else that fits your needs more?

I received an Email for an upgrade to Tracktion V6 for $30 today - I played around with it before but always found the midi editing to be a bit cluncky.

I might have a look at the Bitwig offering once I get my DAW up and running later this year (my Internet PC with XP will not run it).

Decisions, decisions....

Thanks.

Yes, actually I personally would recommend going with another host if you plan on using it for awhile.. even with the upgrade, Orion is lacking in some departments that are commonplace to not be lacking in these days (in other hosts).

Also check Ableton Live.. there is a lighter version for less money. Same with Cubase... and Studio One.. :)

Why doesnt orion 8.6 have a 'midi out clock' on its options menu when orion 7.6 does?

And 7.6 does indeed send a clock but I can't get it with 8.6.

Wonder if they just forgot to bring back that menu item before release.

Edit:
I've been in contact and without speaking for them, I understand the temporary problem faced.

I'm hoping for the best for Orion because its always been my first choice.

According to info Ultran was first included with Orion 3 Platinum back in 2003

Has it been updated since then, or still the same version in Orion 8.6?

So it's a dead host that can't be bought, yet the upgrade for me is showing as £92 Inc VAT

I love EVERYTHING else about that program besides the audio editing. So sad he discontinued it. It it was a huge seller, he wouldn't have.

But perhaps he priced it too high for something that was weak in the audio department. I feel if he hadn't taken out the rewire slave option and added more audio editing, it would have been much more successful. It was not worth just killing off, as it was and always will be too special in so many ways. It was a joy to actually make new music with.
exactly my opinion +10000

Didn't realise the rewire slave was gone, even more reason to dissuade me
