Let’s say I want 3 snares in my Rhythm.

Hmm, I can only have Snare Drum 1 and Snare Drum 2 as snare tracks in either Rhythm Generator’s essential beat editor or Rhythm Editor’s loop editor.

To get around this I could add a Drumtype Track that I won’t be using elsewhere in the arrangement, like Music 1, and then in Drumset Editor add that Drumtype and choose a snare source for it. My Rhythm will contain Snare Drum 1, Snare Drum 2 and Music 1, each feeding a loaded or chosen snare drum source.

That’s good, but the trouble is...let’s say (having defined my Rhythm and Drumset) I would now like to experiment with my kit in Drumset designer (for example, randomization of specific pieces)... but Music 1 does not appear there. OK, I think, what I need is a new top level folder called Music 1 in the components file structure containing lots of saved snare components. (Just as the factory Snare Drum 1 top level component folder contains sub folders then lots of component files).

Hey, wait a minute, that’s what the new Virtual Component feature amounts to. You define a new top level virtual component (like Music 1) which appears in the Drum Designer list but points to an already existing folder in components (like Snare drum 1).

Yes! That's correct! Now, is there a question actually? :D

More like just sharing a moment of discovery perhaps!

No question, but thanks Vojtech for confirming. It took me a while to see how I would use this so thought it was worth outlining my understanding of it. Very clever feature. :tu:

EDIT: edkilp beat me to it.

Very well! ;)
