How can I setup midi presets for Turnado under iOS9?

Post

Hi rad3d,

in Turnado you can decide if you want to save midi assignments with the preset or if you wanna save them globally. Just enter the Turnado settings and activate the "cc recall lock" option. This way the current assignment won't be changed. If it's not activated the assignment will be saved and loaded per Preset.

Thanks, but I don't mean the cc assignments saved to each preset, I mean the ability to call presets by midi program change (PC) commands. My understanding is that these presets needed to be saved to the Midi Programs directory, but the only way to get to that directory previously in iOS was to use something like iFunbox to copy them in.

Since iOS 8.31, Apple has removed the capability for these apps to have the level of access needed, so there appears to now be no way for an iOS user to put presets in this directory, meaning no option for calling presets via midi.

Interested to know if there is any other workaround, or if there are msb/lsb/pc settings that can be used to get to the User bank.

If there isn't, please look at some way of adding to the app as soon as possible. This is a severe limitation for those of us who need to call presets in a live situation.

Hi rad3d,

since Turnado is using its own menu system it is currently possible with a third party tool and a computer only.
But you are totally right. We will improve it and come up with a more convenient file handling in our next bigger update.

Thanks

Though any idea if that will be soon? I had been using Turnado as part of my live setup before updating to iOS 9, and now I'm locked out of making changes and can't change presets manually.

A larger update sounds like a long way off. Any way a simpler update can be offered to allow dropping individual presets into iTunes and having them automatically added to the Midi Programs folder? Or something similar.

My only option if there is no quick fix is to move to another iOS product that has proper midi PC support.

Just found a couple of 3rd party apps that still allow the folder access on iOS - iMazing and SyncIOS.

All good for now.

Would still be good to see a better type of Midi Program Change assignment in a future version. Sounds like that may be coming.

Thanks

Hi rad3d,

a new version (1.3.3) of Turnado is available now where you can simply copy/remove presets to/from the MIDI Programs folder.

Nadine
