I t seems like every plugin I download won't scan, not sure why but it's really annoying.

I get messages like these in the log file everytime I scan,

No plugins found in: C:\Program Files\VstPlugins\TSC-Micro-Synths-Win\Analog Synth.dll

am I doing something wrong?

Hey Bill

Just to discount the obvious stuff, is T6 64bit or 32?
and the plugins 64 or 32?
and in win explorer can you confirm the dll is in that directory?

Yes they advertise as 64 bits, I know the 32s will not work

By the way I have spent some time reorganizing my plugins and rescanning, do some of them have to be in a certain folder structure or just one folder

Kind of new to plugins for music have used them in other software packages.

I'm new to tracktion myself but I think having folders in folders is fine.

I see there's a clear list option under scanning and sorting in settings, maybe that could help before scanning. There are other options there to, but I don't want to put you wrong

I don't know what happened I answered you a day ago but it must have not submitted the best way to load your plugins is to open the folder with your plugins open Tracktion go to the plugins screen in the setting page an drag them to the list tell you see a Plus symbol and drop you plugins on the list an this way it won't mess with your whole plugin scan if a few plugins don't work in Tracktion in just won't load and if you have any Vst plugins remember they are locate by default in program files/Common files and you can drag mutilple Vst's at once this way to

I've had an epipheny trying to trouble-shoot the Xpand!2 plugin, which is a great multi-timbral virtual instrument wotsit.

(I won't get started over PACE licenses, which was a separate issue I resolved...)

The main problem was I originally started with Tracktion T4 in November 2014, successfully installed various 32-bit plugins, including Xpand!2 2.2.1. Recently, I upgraded to T6, and all the previous plugins worked fine. I then was tempted to try T6 64-bit and the corresponding Xpand!2 64-bit dll. Wouldn't load.

So, next up I upgraded to Xpand!2 2.2.7 with a generous cross-grade license... Still wouldn't load 64-bit, and now seemed to have knackered access to it in T6 32-bit version. I went through a few thousand boring cycles of uninstall, re-install and license activation mumbo-jumbo...

Finally found a workaround...

You can have T4 installed alongside T6, so I installed the earliest version I could download from the Tracktion website, T4.3.0. Strangely, this will successfully scan and load all 32-bit versions of Xpand!2 up to 2.2.7. Even stranger, after loading Xpand!2 2.2.1 into T4, it can be viewed in the T6 plugins screen; then after moving the 2.2.1 dll to another folder (for safe-keeping and to prove the next point), 2.2.7 can be successfully loaded by T4 (not by T6), and then can be accessed by T6, but the version displayed in the T6 plugin window is still 2.2.1. I reckon this is a metadata glitch, possibly because T6 only registers the version numbers of VSTs it's loaded itself, and/or it refers to the original version loaded by T4. I don't claim to understand how dlls work (whether they have versioning embedded), nor how Tracktion reads and keeps a log of VST version numbers...

(The fact I'm using Windows 10 is probably irrelevant.)

I could not find the T6 specs on the site.

So it seems that T6 is a 64 bit stand-alone DAW
It will not host 32 bit VST/VSTi's. Unless you use jBridge.
Windows 10, 64 bit is supported.

Is this correct?

No, not quite right.

It's a windows/mac/linux application. It comes as both 32 bit and 64 bit versions. You can install both the 32 bit and 64 bit versions of T6 on the same windows laptop. If all your VSTs are 32 bit, you can run the 32 bit version of T6, and use your VSTs, no problem, whether your laptop is 32 bit, or 64 bit.

If you have a mixture of 32 bit and 64 bit vsts, you'll need to run the 64 bit version of T6, and will need jBridge, or something similar, to run the 32 bit VSTs in the 64 bit version of T6. The 64 bit versions of your VSTs will run without jBridge.

Win10 and 64 bit are supported.

Best bet is just to try the demo.

I know you know this already but just in case.
You can set multiple paths in the vst search.
For programs that like to install the Dll file in strange places you can set that location in the search path.
But you knew that already.
Just playing Mother Hen.

I've always installed into a folder called C:\vsts when given an option.
Most like C:\Steinberg\vst for some reason but putting them all in the same folder means they can be accessed by any DAW especially ones that can't access multiple vst search paths (Ableton Live for one.)

Just to expand and clarify this; if your version of Windows is 32-bit, you can only run the 32-bit version of T6, and you can only use 32-bit plugins.

If your your v ersion of Windows is 64-bit, you can run the 32-bit OR the 64-bit version of T6. You can also use 32-bit AND 64-bit plugins, but T6 will only directly 'see' plugins which match its 'bit size'.
if the plugin 'bit-size' doesnt match the T6 'bit size', you can 'wrap' them to work via something like jBridge. 32 in 32 OK, 64 in 64 OK, 32 in 64 -> via jBridge, 64 in 32 -> via jBridge.

I just downloaded T7, and cannot figure out where you set the VST path!

It was going through it's little startup wizard, and gets to where it says it is scanning. Now I'm quite certain it doesn't know where my plugins are, but I can't figure out where to set the path, and it didn't ask for one.

And it seems like there is no manual for T7 that you don't have to pay for!!?? Videos are all well and good unless you have a specific question you need an answer for.

Jules if you are listening, I recommend turning off the demo white noise--at least while the transport is stopped. It's just ticking off the time I'm wasting trying to figure this out....

Indeed if I didn't know Juce already, I would have uninstalled the demo and bought a Reaper upgrade by now. But I do want to give this software a chance.

Okay here is the problem, and it's the kind of little ui detail that is so crucial.

The popup menu labeled: Scanning and Sorting....

Does not have a little arrow like all the other menus on the page. I actually thought it was a status message. I was waiting for it to finish Scanning and Sorting. and it never seemed to be done.

A simple PDF manual please for things like this?
