Is Breaktweaker Expanded worth $99?

It is what it is. I don't buy based on potential future development either. If it's fun and functional right now, I judge it simply by whether I'm willing to pay the asking price, as is. Other views are not wrong, for the record, that's just my view.

Picked up BreakTweaker, very pleased. Trying to resist Iris 2!
The great thing is these deals are until the end of the year, so if I don't get tempted too much by Black Friday I can treat myself for xmas

Tomorrow is going to be a big download day for me. Gotta wait for serial numbers for Iris and BT, and I bought PPG Phonem too. I figured I'd just wait until I get off work tomorrow and start fresh. All paid and waiting. Lots of cool stuff ahead...and black Friday isn't even here yet.

That is a great deal, but I already had Stutter and Iris2. Trash is not on my wishlist, but Breaktweaker is worth at least $99 (though I got it for $83 at JRR). I will find some fun and use for it at that price.

I bought Breaktweaker for that price a year ago. I played around with it initially but haven't used it since and wish that I would have passed it by.
I do have Stutter Edit which I love and Trash2 which I find quite useful.
I'm looking at the Iris2 deal, but I'm concerned that iZotope might not provide further updates, so I'll probably send my $$ elsewhere.

During October of last year, I purchased the Breaktweaker +4 Expanded bundle on sale for $168 from AudioDeluxe. At the time, I thought it was a good deal, and I thought the demo videos looked promising. I installed it, played around with it once, and then never actually did anything with it, nor the sample packs. My experience with the Iris 2 "upgrade" followed a similar pattern. I will chalk up those moments of poor judgement to Gear Acquisition Syndrome (a condition which I still suffer from today).
Anyway, $83 is about half the cost of what I had paid for Breaktweaker +4, so it might be worth snatching up at that price, although next year it may drop down to $42.

Breaktweaker as a main drum machine isn't optimal. Having just 6 lanes is weird, and the program doesn't have any excuse to abuse the cpu like it does. It can't control external samplers. Using it with a 16 pad midi controller isn't really feasible. It simply pales in comparison to Nerve as a go-to beat creation tool.
Once you look past all of this, it is a formidable instrument that I would say is still worth full price today - if you have any interest in sequencers and samplers that can do funky stuff.

FYI, Izotope has the free Iris Cookbook which also has video tuts on Izotope youtube of different ways to use it (plus the manual). I also recommend patchpool's demo videos that show sophisticated Iris methods.

I'm glad it's not just me, the CPU use is rediculous, surprised no one else has mentioned it! Even just triggering samples it seems realy hungry...acYm wrote:Breaktweaker as a main drum machine isn't optimal. Realy need a resizable GUI as well, hate having to scroll to see all the steps, and so unnessesey on monitors nowadays -
A program that realy needs an update- doesn't look like it got much love (only one .1 update in several years?) maybe that's why there is a fire sale.
X32 and 24C mixers, S88MK3, Live + PUSH 3, Osmose, RedShift 6, Pro3, S4, Tempera, Syntakt, Digitone, OP1-F, OPXY, TR-1000, Eurorack, TD27 Drums, Guitars, Basses, Amps and of course lots of pedals!

if you think about it, switching from left pane to right pane in breaktweaker isn't all that different than switching from pattern 1 to pattern 2 in any other sequencer. except that you can see 1.5 measures for the purpose of having long gesture notes that extend past the end of the bar.

Having only had a chance to "Tweak" this for a few minutes, I see some of the things that people are mentioning: only 6 tracks, scrolling to see the full pattern. I haven't even scratched the surface yet between work and the long process of dowloading and installing this and Iris 2.
One thing that does look like it will be interesting is the isorhythm possibilities by changing individual track lengths and speeds. As for the VERY few sounds that I've heard so far, I'm not impressed. They were thin and lofi-ish, which is not generally my thing. I can always snag some samples from BFD3 or Superior 2 to get the sounds I prefer in some cases.
Overall though, I'm absolutely satisfied, given the price, the possibilities, and the yet to be explored sounds. I need some rest and free time to really check it out. Same goes for Iris 2...and Phonem...

I love BT, use it every time. Great looking and fun working with. Has few issues in my DAW but was fixed. I paid $250 (I think) for it and $40 for each expansion. I am missing one expansion, and I was contacting Izotope asking to upgrade me to Expanded because I paid so much more than it is now, but they won't and expect me to pay $40 to get that last expansion.
