T4 - Recording an Instrument

Hello,

i've just downloaded the T4 to try some things with it. At the moment i want to record my Drumcomputer on one channel. The problem i have is, that i can record and playback the drummachine, but i've i want to hear just the sound of the drumcomputer without recording it, i don't hear anything, although the small "R" is activated and altough i the see peak of the drumcomputer.
Can anybody help me with it ? I just want to hear what the drumcomputer is playing before recording it.

A few questions -

1. Is the drumcoomputer an audio or a MIDI device
2. How is the drumcomputer set as an input device
3. What soundcard or audio device are you using? Is it set up in Tracktion? Can you hear the click track (you have to enable it).
4. If it's MIDI, what MIDI channel is it on - and does it support incoming MIDI events?

1) It's audio (Roland TR-8)
2) It's connected to input channel 3+4. These channels are activated in the settings
3) Motu 828 mk2. It is set up in Tracktion. I can hear the Sinus-Wave for the Test Output. When assigning Input 3+4 to a Track, i can cleary see the signal, but i don't hear it. When i record the signal, and playback it, i can hear it.
So this is a bit confusing, becuase normally it should be possible to prelisten to the signal before recording it, shouldn't it ?

Click the Options button and check that "Run audio engine when stopped" is ticked.

See if that does the trick.

In the "audio track properties" at the bottom section of the screen, you need "live input monitoring" enabled, if your drum machine doesn't have audio output directly. By the sounds of it, you have the audio output from the drum machine directly to the MOTU, and expecting it to input to Traction, output FROM tracktion, and show up in headphones or speakers (or back to the MOTU unit ??).

(If if DID and you had this enabled, you would notice an echo or a slight reverb effect between the device's direct output, and the output from tracktion - the delay between the 2 would be the input and output latency combined. With a MOTU interface and ASIO setup and correct settings AND a fast enough computer, this would sound like a slight phasing.

If your delay is substantial (i.e. half a second or so), then a cheap sound card or too large an output buffer is normally the culprit.

Inside the properties panel is a button "enable end-to-end". Check if it is enabled !

That's right - I think the name changed from "enable end-to-end" to "live input monitoring" in release 5...
