Hi guys,
firstly i want to say that I'm really looking forward to when Bitwig fulfils its great potential so please don't take anything here as a negative and keep up the great pace bug fixing.
Unfortunately i couldn't keep up my pace of output with Bitwig, it was really slowing me down so i went back to Cubase 6.5 and got back to my usual pace of finishing tracks. I'm now on Cubase 8.5 after using 6.5 to get rid of all the plugins that make it unstable, so good so far but i do miss tons of things from Bitwig but at the same time when i boot Bitwig i get frustrated very quickly with the lack of things that would help me drop Cubase forever and never look back even to record a vocal or live instrument.
The last time i sent you an extensive list you said it was just too late to add any suggestions into 1.2, so I've been making a list of the things that really count over the last 2 weeks that have helped me get my usual pace of finishing tracks back on point. I really hope to see all of these features in the very near future inside Bitwig Studio, I don't really have a valid reason to drop Cubase completely until that day, and i hope that day comes? For now though I'm back on Cubase until things with Bitwig improve
MAJOR fixes and Feature Requests needed ASAP
1. First and foremost, ALL known bugs fixed before any of the new features mentioned here or elsewhere are worked on (no more cowbells just bug fixes please, haha)
2. Clip Arranger Track (something like the Cubase arranger track, it's the best one out there)
3. Lanes for recording multiple takes (Cubase has the best system for this)
4. retrospective record (the amount of riffs I’ve played by accident in bitwig that Cubase would've let me keep with its retrospective record option is crazy)
5. track delay like all the other daws on the market (at least for midi, we can move audio forward but moving midi forward is a nightmare with a loop based daw and the missing first note you'll get every time it loops back around)
6. improved track visibility so we can select more than one group of tracks to view
7. right click pop up tool bar with all the tools (needs to come up wherever you right click in the arrangement and edit windows)
8. proper rubber tool that can swipe multiple events for deletion
9. proper knife tool that can swipe multiple events and cut them all at the same time across multiple tracks
10. proper copy and DRAG function for the range tool
11. proper magnifying glass tool for zooming
12. volume handle bars for in and out fades on audio parts
13. proper cross fade options on audio parts
14. proper track enlargement in arrangement view (see studio one or cubase)
15. waveform enlargement slider in arrangement view (shouldn’t have to click into each part to see a big waveform, most major daws have this)
16. full screen midi and audio editors in ALL dual/triple screen modes on any screen the user chooses to edit on
17. more side-chain inputs per plugin device
18. punch in/out auto disable after recording stops (add option to turn this on or off as it's very frustrating how it is now)
19. (fix) pdc for hardware fx (no point owning hardware if you use Bitwig at the moment)
20. better integration of multi timbral instrument plugins (current system is way too messy)
21. vst3 support (either that or just fix the virus TI to work properly, its useless with only Bitwig and works perfectly with everything else)
Please fix this, after using the TI in Cubase for the last 2 weeks, i remember why i've kept it and sold so much other gear.
22. (fix) the bug where duplicated tracks that were connected to a multi timbral instrument get reset on the duplicated track so the midi data is no longer going to the instrument
23. (fix) midi notes should not be sent to multi timbral instruments if the midi track with the note data is muted (add an option to switch this off, drives me nuts)
24. mouse wheel support for ALL bitwig devices and mixer
25. proper channel linking (at least the basic linking from Cubase 5/6)
26. channel names and colours at the bottom of the channel strips in the mixer page for faster and less eye straining mixing
27. snap to scale notes in the midi editor (like in studio one, simply highlights the notes of the selected scale on the piano roll, great feature)
28. short-cut for the midi editor note listen/audition button
29. envelope shape tool for automation
30. proper glue tool for gluing notes and parts together
31. real-time bounce to new track with the track name copying over to the new track like the part name copies over as it now does
32. option to give all parts the track name by default
33. resizeable mixer (see Studio One or Cubase)
34. on/off button for sends to check with and without fx quickly
35. panning of sends so we can only send a mono track that's panned left to the left of the reverb for example
36. automation and midi/audio editors need to all be in one window so we can edit midi cc and the actual notes all in one window. Same with the audio. We really need to be able to edit more than 1 automation parameter or midi cc at a time too so adding lanes like Cubase would be a great feature
37. independent groove functions per part along with better options for adding grooves like in Ableton
38. crop sample feature like in Ableton
39. Key filter for audio samples so we can search by key
40. bring back the right click mini browser and quick preset menu back from 1.1 (the new browser is cool but it's slower to find an eq2 or dynamics device)
41. add a global auto-suspend option in the plugin manager so we can turn it off by default for plugins that don't work with it on (uhe and UAD for example)
42. (add) shift click on an open folder icon to close ALL folders in the project arrange view, add the same to open and close plugin devices in the strip
43. button to toggle mixer and arrange view sync and follow so the selected track in the arrangement page is selected in the mixer too, like all other daws
44. (fix) bug that sends mixers focus back to the first channel when clicking on any of the mixers show /hide icons
45. advance audio process menu with thing like stereo flip, normalize, etc.
46. short-cut for vertical zooming in the midi editor
47. preset batch converter (like you have in Cubase)
48. Please add a audio listen/scrub tool (the little speaker icon you get in Cubase and Studio One, very helpful tool)
49. full and stable support for ALL UAD plugins and versions
50. add a header to ALL open plugin gui so you can add a bypass button. Not all plugins have their own bypass so it becomes a chore on multiple screens to have to flip back and forth between screen layouts to check before and after as you can only bypass the plug on the screen you don't have you plug gui on
MINOR fixes and Feature Requests (but would be nice to see in Bitwig at some point soon)
1. proper 32 bit audio recording in projects (this is really a major for me but i'm sure so many would not agree)
2. short-cut for audio reverse
3. bright colour (orange makes sense) for notes that are being played in the midi editor
4. fix midi drag and drop from ALL instruments (Stylus RMX still doesn't work)
5. midi clip support in the browser
6. basic control room mixer like Cubase for switch monitors (simply expand on the output monitor selector in studio I/O to let us flick between outputs along with a control room volume knob or fader so the master fader stays at zero at all times) this would need to allow us to add plugins to each monitor output otherwise it's pointless.
7. device that loads pics so we load pics of hardware settings into the chain for example
Again i really hope to see the majors fixes and features in Bitwig sometime soon, until then I'll have to keep going with Cubase. I gave bitwig a real committed run but in the end i had no choice to go back, you guys have the power and skill to fix this, I have faith you will
Cheers,
Bobby
