First of all, i'm not trying to be rude, but :

I really hope devs don't take this kinds of requests serious enough to actually follow the list and fulfill all your wishes. If they'd do that everytime people send them requests, we'd have a huge mess of a DAW.

Don't get me wrong, they should take things into consideration, but saying "do this and this or i'll switch" is like meeeh and i think you should probably stick to cubase.

Peace
No you're not being rude at all fella, i posted here so people can maybe say no this could be done this way as it's like this in Pro Tools or FL and it works better. But on the flip side dude please read threads properly before you post. At no point am i saying do this and that or I'll switch, read it properly :tu: Feel free to quote me if you still feel the same way after reading properly.
You are right, i really didn't read your whole post properly, but you posted a very long wishlist that has to be realized in order for you to switch back to bitwig.

Never mind, my first post wasn't really constructive, just like this one isn't, i was just a bit annoyed by your list, don't know why, which is funny because a while back i also started a thread where i was saying i'll switch if they don't get some bugs fixed. So then i actually switched, but couldn't stay with neither Cubase or Ableton, so i switched back to bitwig. What a hypocrite, i know :)

It's easy to look at that list (which really is quite basic, nothing fancy in there) and say man that's long, go use Cubase than you joker. But shift your view and you realize the list is tiny, like really really small.

Let me explain so you can see things form a different view point.
Cubase has been around sine the 90s on the atari ST, i first started using it in 2001 i think. So Cubase has been around for over 15 years, i'll say that again, 15 years, think about that and where you were and what you were doing 15 years ago. Some of you were not even in your teens or even kissed a girl yet :hihi:

So to put my point into perspective, my list is tiny considering Bitwig is only 1 year old, Cubase has had a 15+ year head start. For me to be saying it will only take 50 or so fixes and features for me to leave behind a program as feature rich and well established as Cubase, a program i've been using since 2001, is a massive achievement for the bitwig team. Ableton i'm sure has had way more than 50 or so features added since version 1, even in it's state today there's no way i could drop it for cubase with that browser and shitty audio editing. How long has ableton been out? So if bitwig is about 50 features away in under 18 months vs programs that have been around long enough to have 10 year anniversarys, what will the next year bring, the year after that even?

So yeah you could say that's a bloody long list, you're a twat, go use cubase, or. You could see it my way and say daaaamn, in under 24 months Bitwig is only 50 or so fixes and basic workflow features away from fully taking on cubase and all the others that have been around for well over 150 months :hihi: Suppose it depends on whether you see the glass half full or half empty?

I might be speaking heresy to the crowd here, but I contend that Logic / Cubase are awesome complements to Bitwig / Live. The former are great at late mixing / mastering, the latter at idea generation and early mixing.

Logic Pro X + Bitwig Sudio is less in price than either Cubase or Ableton Live Suite, respectively. Plus you get Alchemy, VCAs, a wide array of plugins including VCA Compressors and EQs that rival many third party offerings. Add the sound Library (Orchestral Content, Apple Loops, etc.), pay $200 for Logic, $250 for Bitwig, and spend the extra $100 on some more RAM.

Hey takaii and xbitz I stumbled about your posts about how to record multiple takes of a performance in several clips that get triggered via follow actions (genial comping work around) and how to cut clips on different tracks at once and how to edit multiple midi events in a clip. Thaaaaank you guys!
:tu:

I always hated that time selection tool and now I finally got an idea what it is useful for. Before I only touched the time selection tool to insert silence or moving a certain range of clips from different tracks. And I was wondering why you would need to invent another tool beside the handy arrow tool for such simple tasks…

If you find the time please put these things in the Tips and Tricks thread because I am sure I am not the only one missing these great features.

Dear BITWiG

Please make Cubase!

Seriously, I have cubase 8 and used to use it when I was recording a guitar/vocal based track (I now use S1) it is the 'spreadsheet' of DAWs, it does everything pretty well (and is the best for linier complex midi arrangements).

Cubase already exists, don't make BITWiG Studio be like Cubase, I used different DAWs for different jobs, even different moods....BW is fast, fun, great with my modular...starts and finishes tracks, it replaces Live completely for me and 80% of what the more established linier DAWs do.

Sure, fix the bugs (still plenty in Cubase, check the forum!) but pick the DAWs for the task, there is not and never will be one DAW for everything...add all that stuff to BITWiG and it won't be fast and simple anymore, it will be the drop down menu heavy window heavy spreadsheet like DAW that already exists.....
X32 and 24C mixers, S88MK3, Live + PUSH 3, Osmose, RedShift 6, Pro3, S4, Tempera, Syntakt, Digitone, OP1-F, OPXY, TR-1000, Eurorack, TD27 Drums, Guitars, Basses, Amps and of course lots of pedals!

Sometimes it's best to use what's becoming a lost art form properly before posting, READING. I'm not trying to be rude but i posted a comment 5 up from yours in the hope people would have a less limited mind set in this thread as people tend to scan read things, fail to understand what the topic is, then assume what the topic is based on how they think and post comments or opinions accordingly. Would it be cool for me to give you a movie review if i left the theatre after 15 mins? This will always happen though, we live in an age of distraction so people will read things lazy and still feel the need to comment when they have not properly listened (this forum is all text so listening here = reading properly and some have already switched off reading this :hihi: ).

The problem with this is that other distracted or lazy readers who would've had something worth contributing read your post and assume you actually read at least the original post (like you'd expect from a movie reviewer to have watched the whole movie) and have made a logical assessment so no need to read for themselves, so they then without using their own mind take your view point and start posting when your view point was off target because you never read/listened to the point in the first place. even worse some don't post at all, this leads to threads going waaaay of point or dying off. Please go read my post 5 up from yours, and then properly read the original post too.

Also your post makes no sense i places and has quite a lot of limiting beliefs that i for one won't accept. How on earth do you know that bitwig would be full of drop downs menus if they added more features, you don't even know how'd they'd go about it to say such a thing. Also correct me if i'm wrong but the aim Bitwig had was to make a daw that had the best of clip based daws (Ableton) and the best of the standard linear daws (cubase, pro tools, logic, S1). A limited mindset says bitwig will as you say will never be the "one DAW for everything" and that a user should "pick the DAWs for the task", Bitwig have already failed in your way of thinking. Again see my post 5 up from yours for what i feel is a much better way of thinking. Why stop at the 80% you mentioned when you can go for a full 100%?

If people are saying i use logic and bitwig, others are saying i switch between ableton and bitwig, then obviously there's more room for improvement in bitwig. So what do bitwig need to make those improvements? Feedback from users, hence my list. If you use other daws for other tasks, why? What exactly do you use and how does it help you work faster? Why is the guy that helped make the amazing Push for bitwig going back and forth between ableton and bitwig, what are those features ableton has that makes him boot it up?
This is why i started this thread, make a list of your own whilst you're working in the other daw you use, then send it to bitwig and post it here too for us to discuss in a sharing like capacity (you say S1 is "the best for linier complex midi arrangements" ok why?)

Nobody and nothing gets to be the best or even o a platform with the best by telling themselves so early on, they'll never improve or be the best, anything is possible if you aim high, practice proper listening and understanding and work hard, all things i've seen form the bitwig team so far. And before anyone does the scan read thing and comments on this post :hihi: listening doesn't automatically mean you will act on what you've heard, listening and acting are two different things. It just means you're open to listening/feedback/change which will automatically keep you relevant.

How come Mike, what's in Ableton that makes you switch it on?
List them here with a short explanation of each please.

Bitwig is already strong enough to cater for most of my creative needs in one daw from initial ideas to full blown mixing. (i don't have hardware synths anymore so can't comment on that aspect)

However I would say that most of the suggestions on the op's initial list are good suggestions. Nothing too big - most just small but helpful work flow additions that certainly does not mean bitwig needs to 'change' into a cubase clone. If I were to write a wish list it would probably end up looking quite similar to that.

Solid, professional stuff imo.

why not going to cubase forum and ask them for implementing stuff you like in bitwig studio into cubase instead?

I'd have more luck joining the queue of Pro Tools users who've been asking Avid to implement Cubase like midi functions for the last 10 years :hihi: Maybe even more luck joining the queue asking Ableton to update the mixer, browser and put an audio editor in Live :hihi:

Clearly you've not tried to open a dialogue with Steinberg before or you'd know how simply daft your suggestion is :o :hihi:

so instead of asking for a schnitzel in a vegan restaurant, u ask for vegan food in an argentinian steak house? ;D
