Hey guys, I've been quite curious about u-He synths for awhile now, they all look amazing, but I haven't heard/seen much of Hive. What kind of sounds it is catered towards making? I can see it is mainly for EDM, but does that mean it is more prioritized for Trance or House etc?

I am looking for more gritty and bassy sounds as well that I could use for D'n'B. I currently also have Xfer Serum which is my go-to synth and has been working great, but if I have Serum would I benefit much from having Hive as well?

Cheers! :tu: :tu: :tu: :phones: :phones: :phones:        :dog:

It has all the tools you need for whatever genre you want to produce. Great LFO's, some gritty cutoff/resonance options, awesome mod section and just great fx build in!

Awesome man, that is great to hear! It is probably a stupid question, but how does the sound quality of Hive compare to that of Diva?

Thanks!

Hive works fine for DnB. Hive is a super-saw based synth, go to YouTube to hear Hive demos and Diva demos, Diva is more of a vintage synth emulation -- someone please correct me but I think the Hive super-saw algorithms are part of Diva.

For bass sounds you should check ACE out, great low end in that,

Demo them, you might find something you prefer in Hive.

Hive is super fast and fun to create sounds...

Because of the complex wavetable Osc's in Serum, it has a much wider potential sound palette. However, Serum has a lot more tabbing. Hive is so easy because all the modules are visible at once... no tabbing. The only tabs are between the two mod matrix pages (one is usually enough) and between the arp and FX pages.

For a lot of basic sounds, Hive is so fast to create/modulate sounds that it is inspiring. Hive also has a fine arp/sequencer combo that is powerful and fast. I also like the supersaw/unison better in Hive than in Serum... it is smoother. Hive uses significantly less cpu.

Whether that is enough for you to find Hive useful in addition to Serum is up to you.

Thanks that covered a lot of questions that I had. I will likely be getting it then to save some cpu usage in my projects :tu:

By the way, I hear a lot of people compare Hive to Sylenth1, is it fair to compare hive to sylenth1? Are they similar? If so how would you compare them?

Thank you guys!!

shonoob,
I own both Sylenth1 and Hive. Sometimes they sound a bit similar, but usually they sound significantly different to me. You should demo Hive (I don't mean mp3 audio demos) yourself and see if you find it inspiring.
You can hear my original music at this link: https://www.soundclick.com/artist/defau ... dID=224436

It is targeted at the EDM crowd, especially as a 'Sylenth' like synth.

But that's all marketing, any modern commercial synth is capable of DnB as of any other genre, it's just what you make of it, as it is always a handful of 'signature sounds' (like the Reese bass in DnB or the Supersaw in Trance).

As of now Sylenth has more DnB preset banks, but Hive is rather new, so the preset designers will deliver I guess.
