Perhaps you already did, but you have to activate the oscillator (as shown in the Picture below).aronahlam wrote:I can't activate the 2nd oscillator... it doesn't make a sound even with the volume knob turned all the way up and oscillator 1's volume knob turned all the way down. It works on presets that utillize it but when I play with hive from an initialized patch it doesn't make any sound. has anyone else had this problem?

ATN69 - click on the u-he badge and select "user guide". Open the Hive folder and then "Hive user guide.pdf". Enjoy

Thanks Howard, but I was just trying to give some ideas to "aronahlam" how to solve his problem. But I am not a U-he pro like you, just a user. You can see his post on previous pageHoward wrote:ATN69 - click on the u-he badge and select "user guide". Open the Hive folder and then "Hive user guide.pdf". Enjoy

I already looked through the userguide but couldn't find anything about how to actually turn on the 2nd oscillator, as lame as that sounds. All I found were short descriptions of what you can do with it. And thanks ATN69!

(Sorry - I addressed the wrong person)
@aronahlam: See "Filter Input Selectors" on page 17. I will add a mention to the oscillator chapter - thanks!

That's something that only you can decide. Install the demo of Hive, read the Hive manual, check out some presets, fiddle with it, create some sounds from scratch, maybe try building a song around it, etc.shonoob wrote:If ive got serum already would this synth give me any different sounds?
If you already own Serum, then you should be able to hear any differences when messing with Hive. Try overdriving the filters and switching engines (Normal/Dirty/Clean). Setup parallel filters for phase cancellation. Setup a ModMapper to modulate OSC pitch with very fast LFO (tune by ear) and modulate the LFO's rate with KeyFollow using another ModMapper. There's tons of potential to exploit; make that synth sing for you!

How do you like Hive yourself mate?
Cheers!
EDIT: Btw, another very random question: Does Hive have GUI skins like Diva?

I'm loving it, and it's my next synth purchase, hopefully before the end of the year. It's got an incredibly smooth unison algorithm and some gorgeous filters that sound especially good with a pulse wave.shonoob wrote:doing it now!Aerithos wrote:That's something that only you can decide. Excellent! I'll check those features out, but the demo crackle is destroying my sanity lol.Aerithos wrote:I'm loving it, and it's my next synth purchase, hopefully before the end of the year. BTW also if you don't mind me asking, what synths do you own already? Do you own any other u-he synths?

I've got both Serum and Hive and I think they complement each other nicely. The sound of Hive is a bit warmer and it's somewhat quicker to dial in a sound (for me anyway). And it helps that it's easier on the cpu of course.
I tend to reach for Serum if I want a sound to cut through the mix and Hive for all kinds of string/chord stab type sounds.
Both get regular use here, get it!
