Because i´m an Ableton user and i´ve downloaded a full version to test bitwig with Push before buy if i were interested. Since i own push i don´t know how to work without it and don´t want to pay for something if i´m not sure. It´s about that i´ve installed a full version but it cannot be upgraded...

Hi,
Another Mac OS X user, Push 2 will work I.e. the buttons for playing notes but no side buttons, or display. I'm very inexperienced in coding at all, so all of this is very confusing to me to say the least. As far as I can tell I need to input a code i.e. java -cp "*" "lib/usb4java-1.2.0/lib/*:classes" push22bitwig.DisplayEmulator, or any of the others that I've tried that users have posted on here earlier into the terminal of the mac, is this the right way to enter the code? kinda lost, how do you learn to do all these things??
Thanks

I will write a more detailed step-by-step tutorial for Mac users. I am busy this week but maybe during the next weekend.

Thanks moss, will try to learn basic java coding in that time, I don't have much experience.

But.. if you are evaluating Bitwig's demo, there is absolutely no reason to be using 1.1.8. It would not give a you a fair conception of what the program is up to these days, nor what the Push integration is currently like.

If you own a license, there is also not really a reason to use 1.1.8...

I realize that perhaps this is not the way to do it and i don´t have too much money but have a lot of things to buy, i understand that maybe i´ve upset someone but i really can´t buy anything i want. So i need to be sure on that... you talk about the demo, but i have only 30 days to test and usually you cannot create more than 8 channels, or cannot insert more than 2 or 4 inserts,
these programs are usually gelded, and i need to create a system as i have on my licensed copy of Ableton. This project has more than 48 tracks, 10 returns, 8 midi or grouped tracks for live performance, 16 tracks of dummy clips (8 midi with IAC Drivers and 8 audio tracks with a bunch of FX mapped to APC40 Clip Launcher section, knob are all mapped to different FX), etc... I mean, need time to prepare my project and a bunch of tracks to test if this DAW is going to work right with me. Once i have anything working as i want, i´m prepared to give money to others. If i pay a license without all my tests and later have problems on creating my stuff i will have two licensed DAW and troubles with both of them...

I understand that creating a DAW has a lot of work and don´t want to upset owners or programmers, i only want to be sure of what i´m going to buy.

Maybe this is not the place to write about that and i wouldn't like to upset someone so i would like to apologize about my posts and stop writing about...

Equally, thanks anybody for the help and the interest on helping others.

The point is, you can download the most recent version to demo... for free...

Using 1.1.8 is *not* a good way to be sure of what you are going to buy! The 1.1.x versions went up to 1.1.20+ (IIRC), let alone that there are 1.2 and 1.3.x releases now! So you cannot say at the same time that you want an accurate demo and then be using such an old version.

So to evaluate with an older version, when the newer version is 100% free to demo, is just confusing. I don't think you've upset anyone about it, but I don't think it is easy for others to understand why you cannot just download the latest demo. There aren't any reasons that I can think of for that, other than you have a 1.1.8 cracked copy or bandwidth is *very* expensive where you live.

The demo is not time limited at all, it just means you cannot save your projects (you can export them as audio though). There are no limitations of the demo besides the saving feature. Which again makes me think you are not using a demo version...

Post

I also understand that money can be very difficult to come by. It's just not very honest to say that you are demo-ing a product to understand if it can handle what you want it to, but not using the actual version that is available to demo. It is also not an honest evaluation of the software because so many things have been updated/improved since then.

I think you should really consider getting the latest demo and trying to recreate your workspace in it. There are second hand licenses around for cheaper than the new price. The 'no-saving' thing is a pain (as it is intended to be) but less of a pain then the 'gelded' demo versions you mention.

If the workspace you want does work, you can grab a license, authorize it, and save the project file immediately.

Post

So, you say that the only thing is 'no-saving', isn´t it? but everything else runs normally and it isn't time limited? It´s good to know... I´m not going to export any tracks because i´m not working with this DAW but that´s the point, make a similar workspace and work in the same way as i do in Ableton. I did not know that i could buy a second hand license too, can i do that? where could i find those sales?

Please move that discussion to the main Bitwig area or to K-V-R misc.

Hello again.

I,ve discovered some strange behaviour when in a group.
When there are more then 8 tracks in a group and want to skip to track nine with the arrow keys it doesnt let me go to the next page where 9 is...
If i select track nine with my mouse it selects it of course on push, but if you want to skip with arrow buttons to track 8 it jumps back to 9.

I thought it got maybe something to do with that i vary to much tracks around ...
But when just make a group and put 10 clean tracks it , it happens also here.
Someone can confirm this behaviour? Or is it well know and i didnt read or paid attention good enough?  :dog:
Thanx in advance!
