When i used Vista, i couldn't really comprehend the bashing on it either. It was running at least as stable and issue free as Windows 7. Actually the performance using ASIO4ALL was even better on Vista than it was on Windows 7 for me. Very happy with Windows 10, and before that, Windows 8.1 now though. Especially the increment of performance is quite siginificant IMO. And kudos to Microsoft for handling the biggest online update in computer history so well. I updated 3 machines to Windows 10 so far, and none of them really had big issues (in fact not even small issues).
Vista was only problematic at the start. By SP2 it was (and is) a great OS. It's just the hive mind thing - people read articles (which were mostly written very early on) and then repeat that info without actually checking things out for themselves.

I used Vista on PC until i started seeing software updates rejecting it (it was fine for a Windows OS), so I got a Win8.1 license and reloaded my PC from scratch. It's not nearly as bad as people bitched it to be. It's snappier then Vista. It's still Windows though.

My vote was for Snow Leopard on Mac because that's where my primary studio setup is focused. It runs from an external USB hard drive due to the MacBook Pro it used to live in dying of the known GPU package defect. I have Mavericks on the internal drive. Surprisingly, this works fine. Snow Leopard is faster than Mavericks in this setup. Sad.

I'm being pushed to El Capitan by software and hardware (new iPhone and iPad, plus Snow Leopard isn't supported by pretty much anyone any more). Tested it on another external USB drive and it's okay. Kind of ugly and Safari has numerous bugs, so I'm still waiting to see if another update fixes anything relevant before I upgrade my Mavericks drive to it. I'll lose my ProjectMix I/O hardware (screw you, Avid/M-Audio) and my t c electronic interface is still only at beta release for El Capitan drivers.

Voted OS X 10.11 but I also have WinXP and Ubuntu 14 virtual machines for the extra development :)

Initially I jumped to El Capitan because I wasn't really happy with Mavericks (I was quite happy with Snow Leopard but software support was getting thinner and thinner). But it was still a bit flaky so I ended up going to Yosemite. I'm sure by the time it gets to 10.11.5 it will be fairly stable (Yosemite was a mess in the early versions too).

Strange, 10.11.2 is running very solid here. It was released a few days ago by the way.

So this poll more or less mirrors the other recent poll about OS's that Windows users outnumber OSX users 2 to 1

On KVR you mean? The actual general use ratio is more like 10:1. Although i'm not sure if that's of any relevance here. Guess the point of this is rather to see which versions of the respective OS's people are using, and how the distribution is in general.

Well it's my intepretation

Mind your own business if you got a problem with it

Windows XP stays strong on my work machine. Wife's and kid's computers are running Windows 10.

Windows 10 and Linux (Debian with Gnome in a VM for development)

NI updates, Kontakt and Reaktor, forced me to OSX 10.8.5 finally. I've come to detest it, rather be on 10.6.8 by far.

Win7 64bit...can't see me changing unless something forces me to.

It has been the only OS I've not had any kind of problem with at all, beyond having to relearn where everything is that had moved or changed since XP. I go on my Dad's computer now and struggle to find things that used to be second nature on XP (which he says he'll never upgrade from!)
Q. Why is a mouse when it spins?
A. The higher the fewer.

This result can't be representative - according to this the share of XP is about the same as the Win 8/8.1.

The major shortage in this vote is that most of us are using more than just one computer. You should be able to give more than one vote and give "shares", e.g. 50 % Win 8, 20 % Win 7, 30 % OSX 10.11.

Mountain Lion is on borrowed time. Apple only support their last three system versions so that makes Mavericks the cut-off point. Expect NI to start requiring that as a minimum soon.

NI and Ableton pushed me off Snow Leopard as well. Yosemite isn't too bad really and El Capitan should be ok with some updates.
