Exactly. If I were to get into programming yet another synth, Dune 2 would be my choice. But as I said Dune 1 has many great patches available, often free- for example, Rob Lee's 212 patch Big Patch for Dune.jsp1979 wrote:Dune 1 sounds great and there are a *ton* of great patches out there for it (and they don't load into Dune 2).
So, that's one reason to pick it up.

I agree with the above. It could be also my desert island synth.4damind wrote:I think the design of Dune2 is very unique. There are not so many synth with a similar layering/unison feature like Dune2.
The GUI design/colors are of course a matter of taste. I use the default gray color theme and I like it. I've also tested this Sandflower theme.. yes, it looks nice and it's different but I'm happy with the default theme.
For me is Dune2 some of this desert island synth.
I had DuneBE (almost Dune 1 without the effects), but it is a different synth. There are some similarities but they are few for me! Dune 2 is almost a new synth. Anyway, I prefer Dune 2 in both sound and GUI.
Using: Cubase Pro 15, Reason 13, Tascam US-4x4HR, MODX6, DM12D, LaunchKey 49, Yamaha guitar(Pacifica 612v) and bass (BB234) and some virtual instruments and synths.

I got the CM version a long time ago but wanted to get the whole show. I'd written them off as never having a sale and moved on. That is NOT to say that it isn't worth the regular price. If I didn't have pretty much every instrument that I know of that I want, I'd have likely bought Dune 2 before now. When this sale popped, that's all it took. I'm actually more impressed with it than I thought I would be. Foremost, it's easy to understand for me, and I like a lot of the patches it ships with. The ability to tweek the unison voices separately should be interesting.

Grabbed this now on the sale, very nice! This may be the one I put an effort into really learning how to program.
Question: I have Antidote for Reason, also have the Soundcells Antidote Signature pack with patches, is there a way to convert patches? I read that one of the guitar patches in the "plucked" category was converted from antidote.

Interesting behavior I bumped into last night.... I use Ableton Live and I normally add the patch-related CC information to my MIDI clips. This causes Dune 2 to automatically switch to the patch that was used every time the clip is played. So I can have multiple MIDI clips on a track, and Dune 2 will just switch to whatever patch is needed to play each clip. Saves me from complex MIDI routing or multiple instances of Dune 2.
But... with the addition of the Xmas bonus patches, my patch library is now too big to be contained in the range of available CC information. Ambient library B is beyond the last available "Sub bank" CC number (86). This would not be an issue if Dune 2 also recognized the "Bank" CC number, but alas.... no.
I hate to start combining patch libraries--I have most of the commercially available ones. And of course, if I change the library structure in any way, all the existing CC numbers will point to the wrong patches, so.... just a pain.
Anyway, heads up to anyone who also uses this technique. There is a logical limit.

Or it can waste hours of guesswork if you accidentally record patch switch into a clipInteresting behavior I bumped into last night.... This new analog mode for the envelopes is a big improvement for all kind of pluck sounds. I think EDM/Trance people will like it and it could make Dune2 also more interesting for this guys. I have not compared it 1:1 to other "typical" synth like Spire or Sylenth but my first impression is very good.

Yes, it is. Weird envelope behaviour was my main complaint with regards to Dune 2 which kept me from using it for many tasks requiring good snappy envelopes, but this seems to be fixed now. They sound lovely. Recently, Sami from Aiyn Zahev sounds, told me he is working hard on a new DUNE 2 soundbank, and that the new features in 2.5 might be the reason why he's finally going to make a soundbank for it. That they take the synth to a new level, because they are so important for plucks, basses and other transient heavy material.
...And just wait until when the wavetable creator is finally finished and integrated into DUNE 2 in 2016. A whole new story.

Yeah, i remember him posting something similar when Dune 2 was out for a short time, that he was hoping for taking it to the next level after Dune 1, which in his opinion didn't happen or something similar. Nice that Synapse listen to the niggles the people have with Dune, and decide to bring new features. The new envelope behavior seems nice listening to demos. That was actually one major issue i had with Dune 2, and already with Dune 1, the envelopes. Just no bang. Seems much better now.Yorrrrrr wrote:They sound lovely.
