The issue really isn't the lack of desire to mix it up... it's more the lack of options, and ideally one that doesn't cut the Mac users out. TripleCheese, Digits, a handful of FM synths (some of which were decidedly not subtractive) have all been used. I don't think anyone has the desire to build a very simple synth except possibly be applicable to OSC, as you say. The only other issue is percussion... it's fine to have a unique synth, but if it can't do percussion at all, it limits not only the quality of entries but the number of people who care to join. And to have a mono synth is really just annoying, it can "easily" but tediously be worked around with a piz midi channelizer or other methods and multiple instances, that you have to keep in sync. But for what? It just ends up being irritating rather than "challenging".The Chase wrote:I was thinking simpler than that, save for TAL Bassline.
I also think it would be cool to use a synth that's still capable but more specialized. Like a cylindrical drum physical modeller. There hasn't been a comp like that, save for Mr. Alias.
Idunno. After 32 OSCs which have been mostly middle-complexity subtractive or hybrid synths, I think we could mix it up a little
Anyway, if you wanted to build a cross-platform synth like you describe, I bet you could get it in the OSC, no problem.
