Ogopogo wrote:One click to add a note would interfere with creating a selection box with the pointer tool, forgot about that. :dog:... I don't want to use a modifier to create a selection box since I do this too much
Not really, we can have the best of both worlds...

We are talking about the object selection tool aka "the pointer tool" , right?:

It should work like this:

Single left click = draw a note.
Single left click on a note and drag = move the note up/down etc..
Single left click on a empty space and drag = box selection.
Single right click on a note = delete that note.
Single right click on a empty space and drag = delete the notes in the way...
Single right click on a empty space = opens the context menu.
Single right click on already select note/notes = opens the notes context menu...

I don't see any interference, and we managed to remove the double click hassle ... :) Or I'm missing something?

Now, this plus the "Drum Step tool" it would be a dream.

Bye....

It's the single left click on empty space and drag that seems like it would be an issue. You want to be able to single click and drag right to create a note, so there might be some conflict.

Also having a right click do different things based on whether a note is selected or not is a bit overcomplicated I think.

I think one of the safer things to say though is that if they are willing to give up the right click menu, at least in some instances, you could gain a lot more than you lost. You can either use key commands or the inspector for all of that stuff anyway.

This step seq would be awesome Man !!

What you mean by drag right? Are you talking about extending the note??
If yes, just click first to create the note and then drag the sides to extend it... Or it's too much work for you?
I can live with that, considering the others benefits...

Well, it seems logical to me, how do you think it should work?

Yeah, I definitely don't want to deal with that. If double clicking to create a note is something that gets annoying, certainly having to chose the size of the note as an extra operation afterwords will be annoying. Maybe it would be acceptable if you are thinking in a "sequencer" type mindset where you are just experimenting with painting stuff in, but for a more musical/free flowing based approach where it's assumed that every note could have it's own place and length it would be a constant annoyance.

I dunno, just not like that. To have to unselect a note before you delete is an annoying extra step, and there would be times when I'd go to delete something and get the popup menu instead. That would be frustrating. And it's kind of the inverse of the normal behavior of having to select something to delete it, with a keyboard shortcut for example. That's not intuitive.

There are many ways to solve this, but since there are many different preferences and ways of work as well, I think that new tools are the easiest thing to do, PLUS a setting in the preferences to assign/map functions to the mouse (with modifiers as well). So we could freely choose what buttons do what... e.g. left click draw, left click and drag fill the steps, right click delete and so on....

FR:

• Floating windows... (anyone?)

Sometimes is more handy to work this way...
I like the docked style, but sometimes is a little hard to work, specially on small monitors.
So, an option to open panels in a floating window would be great...

no floating windows please, it's a mess in cubase for example. Now the window management works very well in Bitwig.

Calm down, this would be just an option... "use it if you want".
I personally think it's great to have it.
I work most of the time on laptops with small monitors, and floating windows are handy on these cases...

See how Mulab works for reference...

i said please..pretty calm already isn't it? I#d rather have them to work on other stuff really.
