Maybe this video?

Core, thanks!

I have missed this video. Sounds great, indeed, except for the Golden Gate patch which becomes pretty ugly when he opens the filter.

This one also showcases the new features:

Yeah, there's still some kind of thin plasticky vibe in there which i'm not exactly fond of... after all that's the reason why i haven't purchased Dune 2 yet. I can see that the envelopes are improved, but overall not as pleased with the character as i'd like to be. But fair enough, can't dig everything.

I understand what you are saying about the "plasticky vibe". It does exist (at least we both hear it :) ) but it is actually great for certain kinds of sounds - dubstep basses, dirty FM sounds and the like. For other sounds you may apply filter drive or exciter or if it is not enough, run some external saturation (ppl are throwing Satin or Saturn virtually on everything, so Dune is no different from other synths in this regard). I do think though that some dedicated character/saturation effect built into Dune would be a nice addition, maybe if we complain about the "plastic sound" as much as we did about the envelopes, Synapse guys will implement something like that :)

Other thing is that the Synapse inhouse sound designer seems to have his soft spot at ambient/cinematic sounds, most factory patches supposed to be "EDM killars" seem to have been designed half-heartedly, like "let's stack a bunch of saws, drench them in reverb, throw a compressor and call it a day". Dune is not Sylenth it doesn't work like that. Here we have much better patches (I hate this kind of house or whatever it is called, but the sound themselves are not bad at all)

Didn't try new ambient patches myself yet, but they've been missing from original Dune 2. This is the pad machine by design.

However, I'm absolutely delighted by stock supersaw and trance pads. A variety of sound which all sound good and usually don't need much tweaking to be usable.

Vandalism patches are faithful for electro house style, but they all seem to miss high-end content. Could be poor video quality. New oversampled filter shoudl also fix that and provide even brighter supersaws.

One last note: Dune 2 is missing buil-in output meter, which often leads to overdrive and clipping. I need to look at external meters to figure out the soudn is noisy because it hits the ceiling. It's also difficult to compensate for it not seeing the actual level.

Doesn't it have a meter in the compressor section?
I could have looked it up a couple of days ago when I downloaded the demo, but I noticed it was still the old version, not 2.5, so I uninstalled it right away 8)

Is Dune 2.5 backwards compatible with 2.0 patches?

There are some nice supersaw sounds in that demo, but also a lot of sounds where i hear that thin plasticky sound, and especially the unpleasant envelope behavior before version 2.5, and also the unpleasant character, when it gets to the more detuned supersaws. It's something which Sylenth1 does exceptionally well for example, also Spire, Dune IMO, not so.

Anyway, enough party pooping (YMMV anyway), the update seems to be a major step forward, and i bet people will have a lot of fun with it now (and before of course :)).
