How long does it take to learn writing a script for a controller? Is it worth the time when there are other daws that already have a script for your controller?

I started 2 days ago, spent a couple of hours so far reading through tutorials & watching vids. Realised I lack fundamental javascript/programming knowledge so have just ordered myself a book ("a smarter way to learn javascript") also got to lesson 5 on code academy lol.
Have no idea how long it will take or whether I 'have the chops for it'...will find out! Haha
It's quite a lot of effort just to make my controller play a metronome haha but I like challenging myself & learning new things so...
Ps special thanks to Thomas H as I'm finding his blog /tutorial particularly helpful & written in a way that suits total newbies like me

The hardest a part is going to be learning how to program if you don't have any experience in coding. Once you have an understanding of how object oriented programming works, JavaScript is easy.

How long time - really depends on previous knowledge of programming.
In terms of how difficult it is to write controller script from a general perspective, i would say its very easy! the API is clean and effective. However if all kind of programming is new to you - it takes some days to get into the stuff.
and the more advance you want your script become, the more complex and difficult it becomes. But it will be highly rewarding at the end
.
