[Solved][Linux] Unable to combine U-He VSTs with other vendors VSTs.

Hi,
First I have to thank you for the effort of building the U-He plugins for Linux. A great sound and available on Linux was the reason to purchase licenses.

I am using Bitwig Studio on Linux (Gentoo, 64 bit, KDE) and decieded to purchase Diva and Zebra 2 as well. Unfortunately I cannot mix the U-He plugins with plugins from other manufacturers. I have tried Piano Tech 5 Stage and discoDSPs Discovery Pro.

When ever I combine any plugin with U-He Diva or Zebra the plugin container and all VST-plugins loaded starts crashing and will not recover unless I remove the combination.

This is how I do it to reproduce the problem:

First I add U-He's Zebra 2 or Diva (purchased licenses) as a new track.
Then I add the Piano Tech 5 Stage as a new track. This is a purchased license as well.

In the console I get the message below. It says PianoTeq in the log but it will always use the other plugin beside U-He.

Several U-He plugins works well together, I bought Zebra 2 and Diva and are using them in combination.

I'd just like to add that this is the case for me too (and I know others too, mentioned in the Linux thread):
U-he plugins + other vendor plugins = Bitwig audio engine crash. It was introduced a few builds ago (not sure exactly when). I'm on 64bit Ubuntu 15.04.

Menhire: The temporary fix is to let the U-he plugins run in their own threads. Enable this in the Bitwig settings, under Plugin Management.

U-He plugins, cause other VSTs seem to play along just fine in Bitwig. So I do suspect the U-He plugins.

It's been reported to Abique, the guy who does the porting of the U'He VSTs, and he said he's on it.

They also bug Carla (host), that was not the case with the first builds.

According to the backtrace, Pianoteq crashes when it calls the std::locale's constructor: std::locale::locale(). There is something weird with the libstdc++ library. If I remember correctly, u-he plugins are statically linked with standard libraries. And as far as I see here, Pianoteq uses your system standard libraries. I think that this might be related to the issue somehow.

I have all my u-he plugins set to run independently in Preferences/Plugin Management. The process is set to 32-bit/64-bit, after which I've ticked the boxes for each u-he plug. Everything works fine, everyone plays together nicely now. Try it, see if it works for you.

Bitwig 1.3.5, Fedora 21 x86_64 with Planet CCRMA additions.

Are there a reason NOT to always run all plug-ins independently? Are there a cost somehow (memory, CPU or so)?

menhire, when you run each plugin independently Bitwig creates a proxy-process to sandbox the plugin. Thus, there is additional interprocess communication which requires a bit more memory and CPU time.

So, unless I have a performance problem with my computer there are no reason not to run the individually. Well, that is good news to me with a oversized box

The main reasons to use sandboxing are crash protection and 64->32 bit bridging. If you confident about the stability of your plugins and don't have a 32-bit one, then you don't need to run them individually.
