I generally avoid changing the tempo in my songs but I am forced to do it for one of my songs. It's easy enough but I thought that it might be even easier if I can use a MIDI file to automatically change the tempo curve.
Let me explain: I played the guitar and sang freely (no attention to click/bpm). This is how I want the song to be. Then I listened back while recording a MIDI note at the beginning of every bar. Now, if the DAW can read this MIDI file and use each MIDI note to determine the bars, then it can automatically create a tempo curve that exactly matches free human performance.
I looked up quickly and I guess some major DAWs (PT, Logic) have this kind of thing ("beat detective?" in PT). I suppose it can just determine the kick drums and use that to create a tempo map.
Would be cool to get it in T7?

There have been earlier requests for 'beat mapping' (term in Logic, I think) so there is a serious demand for that. Your idea with midi, however, isn't quite how that works. (At least not in Logic so probably not in DP either).

Cool. Yeah, I'm new to tempo mapping, hehe.
I just played around with the tempo curve of a song I already recorded and I went in loop properties of vocals, guitar, etc. to auto-time map them with ElastiquePro. At first, I was thinking "wow, what a convenience". And then I noticed parts of the rendered guitar didn't sound right (it would repeat as if it were delayed) and then everything eventually got mixed up so nothing plays in sync with each other. I'm not sure if this is just where this technology is at or whether this is a Tracktion bug.

Can't really tell what you're doing from your description. Perhaps this guide from our ever helpful Bill will give you some pointers!

Yeah I watched that before starting. Thanks. I'm simply changing the tempo curve by placing nodes and slightly slowing down a song. The guitar and bass tracks get messed up. It's a bug.
