I also think Mr Evil :) is right too, maybe those Donut knobs could have a 'slight' bevel put on them just to lift them into a more 3d look
Note that i'll be working on the looks. It's the intention to add more parameters to shape the looks, hopefully also parameters that allow a flat look. So no need to bevel these knobs at this point, they may fit a flat look lateron. Currently working on the fonts.
Unfortunately working on the font took a lot more time than expected. The consequence is that i ran out of dev time wrt improving the looks, so i'll not be able to add support for a flat UI at this point as i really need to switch to other M7 targets, eg targets that are related to making music, which is important too of course!

Not sure what to do with the knobs posted here, like Knob1 and Mapleton Drive. They've a flat 2D look, while the M7 UI will still have a slight 3D look. So i tend to keep the M6 knob for now, but lets keep this topic up and running during the M7 r&d phase.

Thats ok by me, I am currently using Knob1 ( Donut as it is called now) and getting along just fine with it, whether I keep it or revert back to the original remains to be seen.
but the consequence is that i ran out of dev time wrt improving the looks
Is it not up to you when things should be finished, or have you set your goals and definite dates for things to be finished and released, just asking :)

Indeed. That combined with a common sense that it's not good too focus too long on something, and thereby harm other important challenges. I've taken note of the other things that can be improved UI wise and will evaluate further later.

About new knob creations: I'm wondering if someone can come up with a subtle 3D knob that looks better than the M6 knob.

I've added the source files to the dropbox folder if anyone wants a tinker. I've been away for the last week so haven't had time to clean up the layers with names etc. but it's all there.
I have also put in a simpler version of the sundial bi directional knob. , (it's now the same colour as the main knob and I'm actually using this one the most at the moment.)
Maybe I'll just rename the 'donut' folder to 'knob1' as well:)

Thanks for all the feedback.

Hi
When I used SynthEdit, I used g200kg Knobman to make my knob, I don't know if it could be used here but you can try it...

Post

Hey pascalb, where to find your knob?

Post

It's not knob, it's software to make knob...

http://www.g200kg.com/en/software/knobman.html

I used it when I worked with SynthEdit : http://www.dr-midik.fr/site/index.php

Ah, sorry i misunderstood your message. Yes knobman is a very useful app.

coz some people looks on whatever they see on the outside :D

Hi Jo,
I didn't read the thread... sorry if it is already mentioned.
I found a little Synth Gem and the guy explains some new theory (new to me at least) about GUI design (used in the Synth, but not limited to what you see) that seems to be easy and innovative.
Here is the Blog page where you can also find the link to the original concept documents called "Material Design".

Quoted:
"I’ve done a lot of UI changes with Helm lately based off this new design idea called Material Design. You should go check it out yourself, but the basic idea is you take flat UI design and organize it in layers like pieces of paper. The result is a combination of bold colors and skeuomorphic shadows."

Anyway, with some creative skills, it can turn out to be very effective easy and pleasant as well.

So I was playing with jknobman:

GradKnob: (Green - Yellow)

GradKnob_Theme (Respects your current theme)

The zip files contain both the image and the colormode text. Just drop the one you want to try
into your icons folder.

*!Back up the originals if you want to keep them...

I'll probably make some more and post them here. :)

*Another where the gradient ends on yellow instead of green. Jives better with Mulab's
level meters...

*Thinner version of the colored gradient to better accommodate MuLab's racks.
Also the gradient in the tilt knob has been adjusted, when fully turned to the right
the gradient will be gone. This makes for better differentiation between the two
states.

*Note I'm not going to update them all unless someone asks for a change. I will just
assume no one is using them. These I made for myself, I put them here to add to
the variety of available knobs for MuLab or incase someone comes along who wants to use them.

*The mux version, if you like mux.

*Ok last option for this knob:

True Bi-Directional no tilt, both mux and non mux versions. These are just the images.
You will need to replace and/or rename them accordingly.

*To be fair: Thin Gradient Theme (respects your color theme, no mux, no tilt)

Some more knob experiments...

Dark Plastic, Lite Metal, Gold Metal, Med Plastic, Flat Black & White Value Bar.
Packed in a single zip file. For the ones without the value bar, I like using different
ones for Bi-Directional and Normal. Mix & Match or whatever.

*Note, none of these will respect your color theme. Use the color mode:
PictureType=Repaintable or PictureType=GrayScale to get them to display as intended.

-Cheers :ud:
