Best way to convert/adjust a free-tempo recording to tempo-?

I want to take a free-tempo recording of a song, and have it play back at a defined tempo.

I'm finding that it's pretty easy for me to tap the return key or slash key along with a recorded performance and essentially define the "one" of every measure while listening back. Using the return key sets markers, or using the slash key to separate the recording into measure-long regions.

However, I can't seem to find an easy way to have the recording then stretch and adjust to tempo after I've defined the "one". I would have thought the warp time feature in T6 would be the solution, but it seems to be cumbersome with a big file. I've also tried time-stretching each cut-up measure-length region, but some of the regions play back wrong for some reason.

Any good tips/tricks to make this happen, T Ninjas -?

Here is what you should do. Once you have all your wave clips you have slashed set to the tempo you want to put markers at the start and end of the loop you are making now drag a new (audio clip) (from the top right corner to the left of your plugins tab) on the track with the wave clips you sliced up make sure the new audio clip is the same length as your markers hold shift or Ctrl and select every slip between the markers now look in the property tab and select render clip then select merge clips now after the merge select the clip now select the loop properties in the property tab here you can set the root note and tempo for your clip and now it should change tempo smother

THANK YOU for your advice on this. I understand what you are suggesting, but.. I wonder if my particular situation here is somewhat trickier, needing a different solution. Additional suggestions or clarifications would be very welcome Bby you or other T6 Ninjas..

Let's say the song is a THREE MINUTE POP SONG presented to me by an artist, performed on guitar with vocals. A ROUGH DEMO... The artist is performing the song at roughly 100 BPM, but, since the performer isn't performing the song to tempo, the performance EBBS AND FLOWS A FEW BPM THROUGHOUT THE SONG.

Now, I import the 3 minute song demo into T6 (with the bpm set to my target tempo of 100 bpm) and play the song recording on T6 while hitting the slash key "on the one" to the ebbing/flowing recording. By the time I am done slashing and separating the audio file every measure, I have like 150 regions.

This is what I tried to do to get the recording exactly to 100 bpm:

I attempted to get everything exactly to 100 bpm by dragging snapping each 1-measure region to each measure on the T6 grid. Some 1-measure regions are short of the 100 bpm grid measure and some are longer.

I then changed each region to elastic pro time stretching, and stretched each region to snap exactly to one measures length. I would do this for all 150 measures.

HERE is where things don't work right...

I found that I could stretch several measures, and could play them back as continuous audio for several measures, and everything sounds fine. Then by the fourth measure and beyond, certain measures would play back audio that was beyond the ends of the sliced and stretched region, creating a hiccup. Definitely NOT doing what they should do in that particular measure. I was very careful to turn on elastique pro time stretching for each region, and stretch exactly to one measure, starting by snapping the left hand side to the measure, and stretching the other end 'till it snapped to the next measure.

Any help on this, or recommendations for another approach is most welcome, T6 Ninjas -

I wondered about Melodyne.

I've just checked the version 4 editions and it isn't possible to change tempo within a recording using Essential or Assistant. It IS possible within Editor and Studio, however, and the demo version of Studio is only restricted in that you can only use if for 30 days. Greetings Jabe - yes - I saw the Melodyne 4 overview on YouTube yesterday. Amazing, amazing features, including the automatic tempo adjust across multitracks. Very cool and useful.

I wonder why the elastique pro stretching is buggy in certain clips in T6, otherwise I'd be set (albeit with a lot of mouse click work on one song)..

After you get all your slices put your start marker on the start of your first clip now put the out marker to the last clip that is still in the grid and looping fine render the marked region to a new track repeat from the start of the next clip to the last clip that loop clean an render it. Do this all the way down the whole song and now you should have fix your time elastic pro problem because you have a whole song it still time stretching the whole song in each clip but if you render or flatten each clip you should now only be time strectching each clip seprate after the first maker note of the length of your render make sure it is exact for each clip before you time stretch or move any clips

That makes a lot of sense lay-it - I'll give it a shot. Maybe I'll cut the song every four measures, lol. Good lookin' out.

Oh yeah...

Can you just start on the left, chop the clip when the beats begin to drift off the grid, with the / key, and drag the inner arrow on the right hand side of the clip to line it up with the bar lines ...
