I think a lot of people on the internet love to speak in superlatives. I think maybe the ones with the tightest budgets are the ones who become the most vocal and most polarized as a way of justifying the expenditure. I personally really love Serum... but I can list at least a dozen other wavetable synths that I love as much. Just different flavors, and who's against that?Ingonator wrote:Opposing to some others here at KVR Serum was never the "holy grail" of wavetable synths and now that i got Icarus besides some other wavetable synths (including those from Waldorf and PPG and some more) that impression is even stronger for me.
FWIW i also do not care if people here simply see me as a Tone2 fanboi as this is indeed true but that does not mean i do not see if certain synths are good or not.
While those companies/developers are not the most popular ones at KVR i have worked for Tone2, Waldorf and Xils Lab as a tester and sound designer (and for Waldorf even a bit more than that) and i love their products.
Those always have the highest priority for me and are essential for me, more than products from other companies (while for example the Korg Wavestation as both hardware and software was and is essential for me too...).

Speaking of 3d wavetables, a guy on PlanetZ (Scope users forum) is working on a modular DAW and he posted this a few days ago:
Looks awesome.

Well, you know it's not about being a fanboi one way or the other. I hate that word anyway... but ... let me put it this way: if I were involved in any way with a product or affiliated with the company, I would absolutely refrain from making comparative statements in public. Es hat ein Gschmäckle, as our Swabian friends would have it.

Dunno if i missed something, but i never heard someone here claiming Serum was the "holy grail" of wavetable synthesis. It's a popular synth, yes, especially among EDM people, which i don't quite understand either, maybe because Massive has been so popular among those too, but i'm not sure if it is really considered the holy grail for that reason. They probably did a good job though making wavetable synthesis accessible, and easy to use, instead of the pretty complicated, and experimental approach of the PPG synths for example. Which could explain the popularity, as accessibility is a big factor for people who don't think synthesis should be rocket science (count me among those).Ingonator wrote:Opposing to some others here at KVR Serum was never the "holy grail" of wavetable synths

Why don't you refrain from using it to classify KVR members then.ariston wrote:Well, you know it's not about being a fanboi one way or the other. I hate that word anyway...

Well, let me put it another way. If I was affiliated to any company I'd say whatever I'd like to say. But it would be an honest opinion.ariston wrote:Well, you know it's not about being a fanboi one way or the other. So fire away Ingo!

I didn't use it in that way, and you'd realize that if you'd actually read my post. You're the guy that's been using it ad nauseam on KVR... so google "projection" and get on with it.
In case you were referring to my using to towards you the other day... go ahead an google "irony" while you're at it.
Carry on.

It's not the opinion, nor its "honesty", but rather its quality that concerns me.Robmobius wrote:

You've nailed it... You can't work for a company and actually like the product.ariston wrote:It's not the opinion, nor its "honesty", but rather its quality that concerns me.Robmobius wrote:

Anyway, you can (and should) always use your own judgment in the end. Unless you're a lemming and blindly follow someone else.
