Hi again fellow receptor users.
I just lambasted NI through their customer support on this issue. I encourage everyone to do the same.
The only way a company of their size and clout is going to actually move quicker is when they think 1) there is an actual market, and 2) they are afraid they've upset a significant portion of their customer base. NI is not the small, personal company of 10-15 years ago. I think sometimes they can use a friendly reminder of their roots.
So... give them a reason to work with the same expediency at which they release dj equipment and more... "profitable" products.

I'm in the middle of writing a request in NI Komplete Support and I want to make sure I'm clear in what I'm asking.
If I understand correctly, the software library, Kontact 5.5, is incompatible with Linux format and is making the entirety of Komplete 10 unloadable. Muse has pulled in a Linux expert to write around the incompatible software library (is this where Wine is involved) but was unsuccessful. We, the Receptor community are hoping that NI can rewrite code for the Kontact 5.5 library to be compatible with Receptor using a Linux system.
This is correct?

*Bump*
If anyone can verify that the above is accurate then I will contact NI with my vote for their assistance. I think an informed request might go further than uninformed.
Thanks in advance.

Hi
The problem is that Some of the run time librarys (dll.s)in the latest version ofkomplete 10 including kontakt 5.5 are not compatible with Wine.(the shell that linux uses to run VSt,s in)Either NI has to program around the problem.Or the Wine developers have to modify wine to make it work.
I suppose muse could hire i wine expert(excuse the pun) and pay them to modify the current version as it is open source.
Or the NI folks could write a patch justf orus receptor users
or they could even work together.Ime shure there will be a sollution.
but i wouldnt hold my breath.!!

Thanks Andy,
I will send a request to NI for something along these lines. Out of curiosity, is there not a large Wine community outside Muse?
Stuart
*Update*
I asked if they will write to address WINE compatability for v10 or be sure to address this before v11 comes out (people guess either March or September). I will let you know what they say.

Ok! This is the response from one support person from NI.
Hello Stuart Smith,
Thank you for contacting Native Instruments!
Unfortunately we´re not qualified to comment on future products, release dates,
sales specials or developments - we appreciate your understanding.
Please note that we´re always only offering our products for current Apple and
Windows OS, but not for Linux.
Because of this, Muse Research has built heir own installation files for KOMPLETE
in the past so that it runs on their system, but we in support have no insight on
why this hasn´t been possible with the recent version. Please ask Muse Research
for funded information about this topic.
If you have any more questions please don´t hesitate to contact us via this E-Mail!
Best regards
Andre, Native Instruments Support Team

I loved my Receptor because it loaded so much faster and was more stable than running anything on Windows XP. And it was more convenient - I could just carry the rack between rehearsal, gig, and my home studio.
But for the past two years I've used a MS Surface Pro 3, 512GB SSD, with Cantabile (now v.3). I treat it as I did my receptor - no web browsers, Office, or anything other than my live host, interface drivers, and VSTs. Boot up to playable condition is 7 seconds, 5.2ms actual measured latency, and K10 runs easily (I'm sure Omni 2 would also; I haven't chosen to upgrade beyond 1). In two years worth of active gigs, no troubles - even yanking the power cord out once (drummer was squeezing past) didn't upset things. And takes up barely more space than an iPad. So it gives me all the advantages of the Receptor, but in a smaller package and able to take all the latest software.
It's not perfect; with the 512GB SSD it is not inexpensive, and one has to adjust the power settings so it never turns off, disables auto-updates, and keep it in airplane mode on so it won't attempt to update.
But if running new releases of software is important to you, you may want to revisit your original assumptions that led you to purchase the Receptor. The Receptor is a beautiful piece of kit, but my experience shows my laptop rig is perfectly stable and blindingly fast (Cantabile 3 preloads all samples for a set in advance). Much reliable than our drummer, anyway!

As a trained drummer I can tell you I long for the days of take a stick and hit something. The latency was absolute zero (depending on how much beer was spilled on the CPU).
However! Since I've given up lugging 200 lbs. around to get a fraction of sounds I can get digitally I have been investing for two years into this Receptor. I have had programming and stability issues that lost me work. I've spent countless hours trying to find workarounds for simple routing issues that seem to be a breeze on my mid2008 MacBook (not pro) running 10.7.5.
My goal with Receptor as of late has been to get Komplete so that I will have the ability to run multi effects from multiple audio sources in Rack Mode; something my Studio One software does beautifully.
Regardless, I have received a distinct "We don't do Linux (wine)" from Native Instruments. So, I just sent a support request to appdb.winehq.org is hopes of opening a conversation. I would assume Brian Lanser has done this already but, in taking from his direction, I'm going with the idea that if enough people request a fix from WINe (apparently not NI) that they will hear that and make a change.
