How do I achieve keyboard tracking?

Hi folks,

may be I'm too dumb, but I'm not finding a way to achieve keyboard tracking. For example, if I want the cutoff frequency of a filter to change according to the notes on the keyboard played.
Or do a velocity crossfade between two sound sources along the keys of the keyboard.

The module "Note Key/Vel filter" may do this for just one key, but not for all keys.

Post

For a filter: The filter module has an event input. Make sure it is connected so it receives the note events. Then also make sure the filter's Key Tracking is set to eg 100%, but that's already the case by default so especially make sure its event input is connected.

About doing a crossfade over the keyboard:
Thining loud: You could use a Note To Modulation Convertor module and use its output to modulate an Audio Balancer module.

Ok, the crossfading works now! Thanks a lot. But how will be interpolated between the low key and the high key by the Note to Modulation Converter? IS it linear? Would be nice if one could choose a curve (or even draw a curve for velocity cross fade).

Post

The Modulation Mapper module has a cross fade option, maybe put that in there too after the Note To Mod Converter
EDIT
Sorry its not specifically a cross fade option as such but you can alter the curve, not sure how it would be connected yet

Aaah, yes - may be that works. But why has the Modulation Mapper an event input? Is the connection of that event input mandatory?

Post

Whenever I have used it I've had something connected to it but whether its an absolute necessity I'm not too sure, my feeling is not depending on circumstance as its possible to map the controls to something else that would control the Mod Mappers parameters

All modules that have automatable parameters have an event input as it's that event input that receives the automation data.

Post

I have a Constant Modulator connected to the Amplitude input of a Mod Mapper which obviously is receiving Modulation from elsewhere, but neither have the Event input connected to anything so is it recieving event data 'under the hood' so to speak

Is that a question?

Post

Yes, just curious as you say that the modules with automateable parameters have an event input, but the ones in my picture (the MOD WHE) are not connected via the Event input.
Just trying to understand the flow

Ah ok sorry that i didn't understood. It's a good question! Well indeed when automation data is played from the tracks it is sent to the event input of the module. There indeed is no visual cable for it, the events go directly from track to module.

Do you mean a module can receive automation data even if it's event input isn't connected?

Ok, well....as you might be able to tell ( or not ), that setup I have there is using a virtual Mod Wheel on the front panel so no automation is playing, so does what you say apply to this as well
