Trying to recreate the new DDLY-plugin from Izotope me stumbled upon a small hassle that could be solved by a new module. 8)

I'm talking about a module that works like "Ratio" but in the opposite way (see image). Instead of mixing inputs it should distribute the input to two outputs. Say 20% to output #1 and 80% to output #2. Like a crossfader. Though one can achieve this functionality by using modulators to manage distribution it's a lot of hassle to do so. In addition this method disturbs the "readibility" of a patch.

Of course it doesn't need to have the options of the original "Ratio" because they don't make sense here. But it would be nice to add a mode which works like a switch (though, again, this could be done by modulators).

The DDLY has two separate delay lines. There is a level threshold and anything above the threshold is sent to one delay and bellow to the other. The first D in DDLY stands for dynamics.
It doesn't use a crossfade type split as you described.

Well, then let's add this mode/functionality to the new module, too. :D

hehe well, these things are exactly what is MXXX for :). Creating a module for everything would sort of defeat the purpose :). I don't know how that thing works, but seems like a job for Follower and there you have several options, e.g. 2 Dynamics, or some messing up with Math and Waveshapers..

I understand that there don't has to be a module for any exotic task we can think of. The special separation method of DDLY might be one of them. And you're right: fiddling with building blocks to find solutions is the most fun part when working with modulars.

But... a router/switch is imho inevitable for any modular environment. It makes life so much easier and safes a lot of time. Especially when you replace a part of the chain and have to re-assign the above mentioned modulation again.

Please think about the initial suggestion again. :)

But there is a crossfade in DDL depending on how you set that big knob on the left, dialed to the far left, the signal distribution to the 2 delays is not working like a switch but more like a smooth crossfade, in fact the signal doesn't really get totally separated with that smooth kind of setting.

While you could achieve much the same result with multiple Utility modules and multi-targeted modulation, I do think elassi has come up with a really useful idea here. It opens up a path to all kinds of configurations that one might not think of in the first place since there's no obvious module to make this sort of thing happen. So, I'd also like to recommend this be considered as an enhancement.

Why not just flip the multi-band concept from horizontal (frequency) to vertical (dynamics), done! Then all plugins could also be re-released :)

Sorry, couldn't resist...

I was actually trying to figure out how to do exactly this earlier today. Would definitely appreciate it.

While most of you guys seem to mainly focus on the DDLY method I'd like to underline that I'm keen on a basic router/switch only.

That's all I'm asking for. :ud:

So, the opposite of Ratio? 1 input, 2 outputs, a control how much goes to each channel?

Exactly right, IMO. One output is the default - treated as any module output. The second would need to be explicitly "stolen", if that's the right term here, but a module in another lane. I confess that I have not thought this through deeply, but on the surface, it's seem perfectly straightforward.
