I know they're all pretentious wankers and everybody hates them. But this is my favorite guitar solo. Ever.

Mike Oldfield's solos are so good that he could have phoned them in, and looks like he wanted to do so in this vid :D

Mesmerising...

First comes to mind - Steve Hackett Twice Around the Sun from the Darktown album. I remember hearing this track first time - it made my hair on my back rise. And it's still absolutely fantastic track today. The interplay between mellotron harmonies and the sustained guitar at the end just blows you away. And of course, the whole album is excellent, among my most favorite albums of all time for sure.

not very into absolutes like that, but I can honestly cite a #1 all-time fave guitar solo: . I've got it cued up fr. the youtube post, if you'll click on the link. Wait, except for this: which is from the same section of Drowning Witch. 1982.

You have to forward and it's REALLY short. But that's why it's so fantastic.
Great call, great band, phenomenal guitarist. :tu:

That really takes me back. I've been listening to The Fixx for the past two hours, thanks to this...and, I ain't complaining. :phones:

One of my favorite solos (besides that Joe's Garage solo by Zappa) is in Hemispheres by Rush, right at about the 6:22 mark in the title track.

No doubt THE axe solo of our times:

Fried Frith's on Moisture. It's got everything and doesn't go on for 20 minutes or so.

There used to be some funnier ones, couldn't find them.
