Tracktion with Tascam DM3200 / DM4800

Anyone using Tracktion with a Tascam DM3200 or DM4800? I finally figured out how to get full use of the Tascam as a remote. The method is a bit complicated, but I would go to the trouble of posting it if anyone actually wanted it. (Windows only)

Try the Time Machine function under the Other Tools menu. Just key in your required date and click the Do It button.
[W10-64, T5/6/7/W8/9/10/11/12/13, 32(to W8)&64 all, Spike],[W7-32, T5/6/7/W8, Gina16] everything underused.

OK, I have a feeling this is going to be long and won't be perfect or complete, but I hope it helps...
PART 1 - SETTING UP THE TASCAM REMOTE SETTINGS. ____________
On the keypad (near the screen) of the Tascam mixer hit alt-remote.
TAB 1 - MC Setup
I have not tried to tweak any of these settings.
TAB 2 - MACHINE CTRL
This will enable the transport on the bottom left of the mixer. Setup as pictured.
(REW F. FWD STOP PLAY REC)
TAB 3 - EXT. CTRL
This will enable the "Remote" button in the layer status section. Setup as pictured for the option that offers the most control (Panning, Aux, and Plugin).
If you want a simpler setup, you can use Steinberg rather than Digital Performer, but you will lose AUX.
Select the "24 MC for DP" you just added in the ^CONTROL.
The remote will then be active whenever the REMOTE LAYER is selected.

OK for your MIDI setup if you are willing to go the complicated path.
Download and install loopMIDI which you should install anyway because of the abilities it gives you to internally route MIDI in Tracktion and other music software. Free, unobtrusive, and low resources.

This will allow a small app to use computer keys to switch the mixer between controlling PANS, AUX, and PLUG control. (I'll post it later in this thread).
Download and install Copperlan which is an awesome program that will allow you to merge midi ports and even send MIDI over your home network between machines. Also free, unobtrusive, and low resources.

OK, in loopMIDI, create a new loopMIDI port and name it "TracktionDM". Of course, you can create as many new MIDI ports as you would like. But make sure you create one with that exact name.
You can create new ports in Copperlan as well but I prefer creating virtual ports for routing MIDI in loopMIDI because you can name them whatever you like.

Next in Copperlan, in the "EDIT" section, you want to now create at least a few virtual ports.
In both the "CP to MIDI interface" settings and the "MIDI interface to CP" settings make sure you turn on PORTS 5,6, (and 7 for the DM4800?) of the Tascam Mixer, the TracktionDM port you created in loopMIDI (this won't show up if you failed to restart), and any other ports of your choice.
I am not going into great detail on setting up copperlan, because you will probably want to set it up to meet your own needs unique to your situation.
But you do need to do the following...
In Copperlan's Connect tab
Connect the Tascam DM-4800 DM-4800Remote Port 1 to a VMidi port of your choice.
Connect the "TascamDM" port to the same VMidi port.
I will use "VMidi 1" for my example.
This will merge the two ports. So both the little app I post and the Tascam Remote 1 from the mixer will both be sending there data to VMidi 1.
OK finally in Tracktion:
In the setup make sure the following MIDI inputs are enabled:
VMidi 1
Tascam Port 6 Remote 2
Tascam Port 7 (I am not sure this is need with the 3200, but you do it with the 4800)
In the setup make sure the following MIDI outputs are enabled:
Tascam Port 5 Remote 1
Tascam Port 6 Remote 2
Tascam Port 7 Remote 3 (For DM4800)
Sorry if I don't have the naming exactly right. Don't have access to double check but I know the names I used are close enough to figure out.
OK UPDATED, left this out...
Now create in Tracktion:Settings:Control Surfaces:
Create a Mackie Control Universal, use 1 extender for DM3200, 2 extenders for DM4800.
For inputs.
INPUT OUTPUT
Mackie Control Universal VMidi 1 Tascam Remote Port 5 (remote 1)
Mackie Control Universal XT #1 Tascam Remote Port 6 Tascam Remote Port 6

OK here is the tiny AHK script/app that will send messages to Tracktion allowing you to switch between using the mixer's pan encoders for remotely controlling Tracktions Pans, Aux sends, and Plugin settings.
This will only work if I correctly told you how to do the setup above and you correctly did it.
It only send the MIDI data when Tracktion is active. I've included the app, and the ahk files if you would like to view/tweak the code. Make sure to compile as ANSI 32.

Forgot this in Tracktion edit, Timecode > respond to MIDI machine control from device: VMidi 1*
Use Tascam Dm4800 Port 5 Remote 1 if you did the simple setup not using copperlan and loopMIDI.
