...for clarification...which "standard" system is being used as default when indicating/numbering the octaves when the "areas" are displayed in the eq charting windows...and/or could the "middle C" be highlighted in some manner as clarification...tia.../s~

Middle C (MIDI Note 60) is C3 (~261.6 Hz) and A440 is A4 in the plug-ins. Here's a screenshot showing those two frequencies:

The note name range would be C-2 to G8. If you click the [MIDI] button and go to the "Notes" tab on the MIDI Settings window, you can see them in the Note drop-down list.

This range is the "standard" adopted by some hardware manufacturers and many software manufacturers. It is one down from the scientific pitch notation, where Middle C is designated C4 because of the note's position as the fourth C key on a standard 88-key piano keyboard. Following on from that, A440 would be named A5.

Having said all that, highlighting MIDI note 60 in all the keyboard displays could be a useful reference; look closely at the screenshot above or at this:

hey, DS...I was aware of the two systems (bummer) and wanted to confirm the choice was quite intentional...and it is also possible to "edit/renumber" the displayed numbers by editing the "areas" in the plugin themselves...marking middle "C" with a bright/distinctive color would be just the ticket...cheers!.../s~

To make matters worse, some developers use C5 as middle C, which makes sense in that it is five octaves up from MIDI note 0. So, there are really three systems in use. It's really unfortunate that there was never a standard established for this. At least MIDI note numbers are unambiguous, however.

...well, there ya go!...three systems!...any more out there i haven't heard of!?...so, maybe visually mark "classical middle C," and have numbering following the midi convention...sheesh, almost sorry i brought it up.../s~

Yeah... it's a mess :D. But it could be worse, a little "funny" story: A friend of mine broke his leg in Nepal. They get him to a hospitel, performed surgery, all nice, but he got some screws in his leg. Then they transfered him home and after a few months he went for the first set of screws to be removed. And guess what - they didn't have the right screwdriver set. So they ordered a new one, then he get to the hospital again and it turns out this wasn't the right one either :D. So they ordered a whole set of all sets they knew about, and there was like 60 of them :D... That gives one some perspective :D.

How about a new Shared setting for "Octave Name display offset"? then people can set it to get the note names they want:
  • Offset value of +1 give note names of C0 to G10 (note #60 = C5)
  • Offset value of 0 give note names of C-1 to G9 (note #60 = C4)
  • Offset value of -1 give note names of C-2 to G8 (note #60 = C3)
  • etc

+1 for DarkStar...would save me time...I really use "quick" visual cues so I don't have to "think" while creating music, I can do the engineering later...it's a workflow thing...:D.../s~

The Difficult is that which can be done immediately; the Impossible is that which takes a little longer.
