Is there a way to make the midi editor audible?

One thing I prefer in Reaper to Tracktion is the fact that the midi editor is audible, if you select or create a note it plays it which means I can adjust notes by ear, rather than visually. The piano roll keyboard is also audible. Is there a way to make the Tracktion midi editor do this?
(actually I'm sure it used to be at one point, I just don't use it enough to have really noticed when it changed)

The MIDI editor is audible? If you click a new note or move one up/down, you hear the note, provided you have the VST present and the track isn't muted?

Not for me, is there some hidden setting that turns it on/off?

Nope that is always selected - I've tried every visible setting I can find but I can't see anything that would account for midi notes not sounding except in playback
