here, T7 starts faster than T6, but low latency performance is even worse - and T6 was worse rhan T5 (on Win 10). Are they going to look into performance ? Also the jumpyness of the CPU meter is also worse than with T6.

UI is nice - especially that one has more space. But with peformance getting worse with every version and T6 disappearing from accounts - hmmm, does not feel solid or promising ....

I gotta say it seems pretty buggy to me. With the transport collapsed,
nothing works from it. It refuses to update any changes unless I open it
and close it a few times. If I don't do that it can actually report and load
2 different sets of master track plugins per state.

I don't understand why they refuse to do the Beta thing with a new version.
That way folks wouldn't get upset at buying a new DAW that's really unusable
for serious work.

I think there are beta testers and T7 works fine for most people. Particularly with Windows PCs there's a range of versions of Windows, a range of hardware (PCs, interface devices, etc, etc), and there's always going to be some combination that didn't get tested. You could volunteer to be a beta tester for T8 if they're taking on more beta testers.

beside the new theme, overall good first impression here.

i would really like to see another theme, that is not that dark, with overall less contrast.
maybe make three ones, dark, medium, light ...this one burns in the eyes very fast.

I think having 3 different themes like this is a very sensible idea.
I've been reading up about white text and black background in some usability forums and it seems like the best fix is to find a font with more separation between the letters (no kerning). I've found Andale Mono to be acceptable but the contrast is still something of an issue.

This is quite an old article but it mentions that around 50% of the population find it difficult to read light text on dark backgrounds.

Other than that I think there are some great workflow improvements in this release.

I think it's unlikely they will bring back the colour editor, particularly now that colour is more complex with gradients to take into account. I do think they will probably add additional themes though in future, I love the new theme but can see it doesn't please everyone.

I think T7 shows how vector based interfaces don't have to be completely flat and can be very beautiful without having to ape hardware or fall back on skeuomorphism.

Purchased the new version within 5 minutes of getting the email.

Thoughts:
* TCO again deserves props for offering such a great upgrade price
* 3 hours of experimentation: No crashes
* Opened up all old projects without issue
* At least for me, the plugin scanner is light years faster
* Love the new interface, look forward to at least the possibility of a medium and light theme
* A bit disappointed I'm still getting occasional pops... I think I've narrowed it down to VST3 plugins like Ozone, but have to do a bit more testing to be sure.

I'm excited to begin exploring the new features in depth in the coming weeks, and I'm thrilled that the only DAW I'm passionate about is alive and kicking! (There's nothing wrong with a DAW just being a tool that works (like Studio One, my other option) but there's always been something about Tracktion's straightforward interface that has encouraged my most creative work).

I generally love the new look and responsiveness of T7, although I'm not thrilled to see the post regarding low latency performance getting worse with each version. I've not yet tested this for myself in T7.

I really like the movable browser window option and implementation, with one exception, which is that I can find no way to turn off the auto-show / hide feature. I've scoured the options in both the main screen and in the General Behavior of the Settings tab and see nothing other than the option to choose Left, Right or Top, which seems redundant in that you can simply drag the browser where you want it without using the Settings tab option.

It's really annoying to have the browser pop out if your mouse cursor floats to the edge of the screen where the browser is located. The least intrusive option for me is to have it on the left side. Please implement an option to turn this auto feature on or off.

About the plugin images: You can replace the ones that come out black manually,
just like you have to do in FL Studio sometimes... Have to be careful not to over-write
them.

Actually Studio One 3 is the only DAW I've seen that is able to capture the thumbnails
correctly. Although they sometimes don't stick.

TSC might look for a better method to capture them maybe.

BTW: anyone able to use the VST3 version of Ozone 7, it's not working for me
in T7 only the VST2. It wont load the UI.

I don't have O7, but my other Izotope plugins are acting similar to what your describing.

I'm going to stick with T6 for now. I'm very happy with it. T7 has some quite impressive features but I cannot work with that colour scheme for more than 30mins without getting a headache.

Well, I did a post like that. I am on Win 10, so this might not apply to other Windows versions or MacOSX. With Win 8.1 things worked better. I got an audio interface (ASIO- Steinberg/Yamaha interface) made things better.
I now changed my buffers to 256, disabled 64 bit mix feature (I am on a 64 bit CPU and 64 bit OS running 64 bit tracktion with 64 bit plugins - but this seemed to make things smoother - whatever) and at least for now CPU meter is pretty steady (at around 33%) and lower than with T6. Maybe I cannot go below 256 ( which I tried before) - for playing keys 256 is still acceptable.

Thanks for further commenting on your low latency situation with W10 Steff3.

Strange regarding the 64bit maths option causing performance issues. With as many of these issues as I've sorted out through the various T versions, I never witnesses an obvious correlation between this option and poor performance.

Been using T7 for a very basic mix of a few iPhone recordings of a rehearsal. So far, I love how stable it's been with every plug I've thrown at it, which is by no means very many when compared to others on this forum, yet what's most inspiring is how it feels / responds. Others have mentioned this as well. The aesthetic evolution combined with this more solid feel, make the $30 upgrade from T6 a no brainer. The rest will just be icing on the cake.

I did have a crash when working with a plug, yet it was more orderly than what I've experienced in T6, where I'm getting poof crashes quite often, which offer no option to use the temp file when re-loading the edit. This one in T7 pulled up the Windows system error message box and proceeded to gracefully terminate T. When I came back in, the option to use the temp file was offered. In short, so far T7 crashes more properly!

As for the new color scheme, I love it. I was greatly concerned when I read the many complaints about such, yet thankfully I find it to be very pleasing and clear. Guess my screen font happens to work well with T7.

Yeah I'm using it in trial mode at the moment, and find the colour scheme OK. For font, I quite like how Sego UI Semibold looks in T7 (it's a core Windows font I think). Perhaps tweaks could be done to the scaling, as some UI elements fonts are too small IMO. Sadly T6 looks terrible in that font though, and it seems a change in one affects the other.

Yes. A slightly heavier font gives good contrast on the laptop screen.
