Here is a demo of my FS80 mux synth. I have been working on this synth for about 3 days and its beginning to sound truly awesome. When it is finished I will make it available for free download

Will be available for download soon.....
The Specs are....
2 x sawtooths
2 x rectangular waveforms with PWM/AIPS (a dedicated LFO for each PWM)
2 x sine waves
2 x noise generators
1 x ring mod with amp and pitch envelopes and initial pitch
1 x LFO ('sub osc' on CS80) to VCO,VCF and VCA (Global) with selectable wave shapes
1 x Stereo Spread
1 x Brilliance
1 x Instability (for a truer analogue feel I have assigned a dedicated wobble generator to each oscillator) it sounds proper fat if you turn it all the way up
2 x Filter sections with HPF and LPF (both with resonance)
2 x filter envelopes with IL/AL ADR (like the actual CS80 has)
1 x Mixer section (where the sine waves are come in - they do not get filtered)
2 x ADSR amp envelopes (release controls both adsr's)
1 x detune/transpose section

The FS80 will be released on Saturday. I had put a download link here last night but realised a shortcoming in the design this morning so removed it

I don't have enough knowledge about synthesizers, but i detected that the 'release' in the 'Mixer > Amp' section of both Osc are linked together ... Is that the way they should work ? ... As i've said, i'm a little bit ignorant
about synthesizers, but as i'm always eager to learn new things, if it's not a bug i'll be grateful to you to know the 'why' it needs to work like that ...
On the other hand i've been playing with it in a hurry as i must leave now and it sounds great, great job FSM77!

That's a good question about the linked release which has been done by me on purpose . The polysynth that I used to build the fs80 has only got provision for one master amp envelope. When I gave the second amp env its own release the notes would cut abruptly when the release was set longer than the first amp envelope. The only way to stop it happening is to use only one amp env or link the two releases. Its a shame I couldn't find a solution to the note cut problem. Hope that explains it for you.

Thanks for your answer, as i've said i don't have enough knowledge about synths but i think that i understood what you've said ...FSM77 wrote:Hope that explains it for you.
Now i think that the solution generates another problem: if i raise up 'Mixer > Amp Release' and play a couple of notes, the CPU meter also starts raising up after each note i play until it reaches 100% and audio output saturates, making sound full of noise until it cuts completely the audio output (this happens even if i use only one Osc) ... At that moment if i raise down 'Mixer Amp Release' to 0, the CPU meter also goes down to 0 at the same time ...
EDIT: Made a screen capture
(It behaves the same way either if i use the Mac internal audio interface or the external M-Audio interface)

My system: i3 3.2GHz, 8 GB DDR3, MacOSX 10.6.8, M-Audio Firewire Solo
Anyway i've been playing with it this afternoon and i've been able to made some interesting textures with it (without touching Mixer Amp Release of course
It's a good synth, so let's see if someone could confirm this (maybe it's only a problem of my system) and help with the problem(s) if it's so ...
Kind regards

are you using a long release time? and is the cpu meter going into the red? I tested the FS80 with long release times and it seems to overload the CPU. It's probably beacuse the mux is being calculated in real time and there's some much going on in the mux for the FS80 it quickly overloads the cpu. If I could compile the framework into a .dll vst this probably wouldnt happen. but its a limitation of the mux i'm afraid. I dont know much about processors but yours looks pretty fast. I havent had any problems with the mixer levels on my laptop...just the long release time
Hope that helps

By mistake, in my hurry to register MuLab, i registered also the windows MUX VST (me being in Mac
) ... So, i'm going to check FS80 right now in a Parallels Virtual Machine with Windows XP + Reaper ... I'll tell you the results as soon as i have some ... I think also that the problem relies in the MUX itself
With regard to your questions (as you can see in the screenshot) the answer is yes
So, see you later with the VST results ...

On the screenshot you posted you're using a release time around 20 secs. All notes you play within 20 secs of eachother will then sound polyphonically of course raising CPU usage step by step (ie voice per voice). I see that in the screenshot you posted the MUX power on/off LED is orange, this means you reached maximum polyphony ie there are 48 voices playing at the same time. This patch is quite complex and uses many oscillators per voice. That's how there is CPU overload situation on your system.trackie wrote:if i raise up 'Mixer > Amp Release' and play a couple of notes, the CPU meter also starts raising up after each note i play until it reaches 100% and audio output saturates, making sound full of noise until it cuts completely the audio output (this happens even if i use only one Osc) ... I run 32 bit version but will try in the 64 bit version later. I use the 32 bit version because I use lots of free vst's which are only 32bit . 64 bit should help out. but otherwise I am thinking of changing the release slider to 20sec decay instead of full 40sec which is a bit excessive maybe. this can be done by right clicking on the slider and then edit parameter. its quite easy to do
