is there a feature in T7 to group several clips placed on different tracks ?

I hope I'm mistaken but there really doesn' seem to be an implementation of grouping clips on different tracks?!
I know there is clip grouping of adjacent clips of only one track but what do you do when you do multitrack recordings of a couple of tracks and then want to move those clips together? Having to select those clips manually is absolutely an workflow killer.

Yes, that appears to be the case. You can still select clips from different tracks and move them together.

You could put the tracks in question into a folder track or submix. If you then select the folder track or submix track and click on 'Select All Clips In Track' in the properties panel, would that give you an approximate solution?

Well, I guess I'm spoiled from working with Samplitude : - )
I was drawn to Tracktion because of its looks: you can make it look very clean and simplistic and nothing distracts you visually.
If I start working with folder tracks to accomplish some 'grouping' of clips then it starts to get visually more 'messy' and technical.
Also, crossfading of folderclips on the folder track is not really convenient as the folderclips will become one/'melt' as soon as they overlap.
And then there are some other things that make working with folderclips quite different to working with grouped clips in the traditional way.

I just thought now that Tracktion's developers came up with clip-grouping on track level why not have a real grouping keyboardshortcut for grouping clips across tracks the 'traditional way'...

There's edit clips. I suppose it depends on how much moving about you need to do. I was wondering about Marker clips; I feel it ought to be possible to do things with them. I'll check Bill's manual.

Hi, thanks for further suggestions. I will see what can be done with marker clips and selecting those clips underneath it /(overlapping). I will also see if I can create a macro myself for missing shortcuts i.e. select those clips within the marker.

TracktionDevs: It would be nice to have a doubleclick on a marker select all the clips within its range.


Perhaps Tracktion devs can also say a word if something like grouping clips across tracks is on their roadmap/ near future.

If your tracks are below each other and the folder tracks are too messy for you, the simple selection rectangle (ALT-key) might be the most simplistic and clean solution for you?

Yes, that's the way I'm working at the moment and I wish I could do this without having to use both my hands having to use the modifier as I'm recording myself standing up with a guitar in my hand and in front the mic ... while operating Tracktion I'm working like this....

I also asked for that - in an email - and they told me that the solution would be foldertracks.
I also think this is not quite doing it. grouping clips on different tracks would be great - and fit well into the 'object-oriented drag &drop approach' of Tracktion.

i am also a samplitude user and everybody who worked with samplitude and is familiar with its object (clips in tracktion) concept, will immediately understand what real object (clip) grouping (with remembering grouped clips/objects, until you ungroup it again) across the whole project is capable of. it's a killer workflowfeature and would be easy to implement i guess, but well ...

apart from clip-grouping, another part of the object-concept of samplitude is now scratched with the new clipeffects-feature in t7. the layout is nice, very fast to work with, its addition is very welcome here. but i had to laugh out loud, when i read the "pat. pending" ... really!? ... this concept exists already, long before tracktion 1 was first introduced, guess where ...
the layout is a little bit different and has some nice and fresh ideas, but the overall concept is not new.
the audiostream is also limited to the clipborders, so delay and reverb is cut.

i am still hoping for the implementation of a real clip-grouping feature and evolved clipeffects, that will play audio over the clipborders ... we'll see

while killing my eyes with blue-steel, t7 has made some great steps, that i do appreciate a lot.
so i am still going with it, as a companion to my other daw of choice.
