Can someone let me know which type of control in the Textured Style Editor is used for these buttons? They come up as black or white in every style that I've loaded.

As you can see bright white on a dark background is not a good look. ;)

Sorry, I dont know at all, so this will be unhelpful. But I'm curious to know how you're getting on with the style editor. How long did it take you to get up to speed with it? I was thinking of getting into it but worry it's a bit of a time sink.

Thanks (and good luck).

I started off three years ago - it took quite a bit of experimenting (and patience from Vojtech :)) for me to grasp the principles of how it works. There are still a few areas of mystery. Initially I copied a few of the factory style definitions and made small mods here and there, using the preview features in the Editor to see what had changed. The documentation's not too bad, either ;) (It's in the Editor zip file. It's for an earlier version of the Editor, but still relevant.)

I get the feeling that there is some style functionality that is not yet used in the plug-ins - for example the different definitions for the different knob states (default, focussed, highlighted etc).

Currently I am using modified versions of Aluminion, Futuristic, Minimalistic and Ozone, depending on the ambient light. I have also put together various 'favourite' colour palettes for each.

Awesome, thanks. Sounds like a fair amount of work. I'll probably venture into it when I get some time :)

Yes, I'velooked into this too. It makes my brain hurt. Anyway darkstar, I thought you wrote the manual?

I did ;)

But once you get the hang of the Editor it's very powerful.

Meanwhile, here's an overview of the Textured Style Editor:

(Yours will not look exactly like that - I've used a modified style for the Editor itself ;))

Each style consissts of a set of components (windows, panels, edit windows, knobs, sliders, buttons, fonts etc) and the properties (size, colour, image, text fonts, corner rounding etc) can be defined. You will recall those 5 colours you see in the Settings / Style Configuration window; in the Editor those 'main' colours can be applied to various extents to many of the components.

In the Editor, the components and sub-components (e.g. the tracker pointer) are listed in a hierarchical Browser, providing easy access to any of them. Many of the sub-components have property definitions for different states (e.g default, highlighted, clicked, focussed, disabled) too.

Once you have selected the element to edit, you will see the "Painter" window - here you can render a simple rectangular image or use the "Image" option where you can load and modify an image file, or generate a (bevelled) background shape. Previews of the edits are displayed and there are 4 Test pages that show all the elements too.

Element definitions can be copied and pasted or saved to disk and loaded (similar to those functions in the plug-ins).

And, as with all MeldaProduction software, the more you look the more you find ;)

Here's no control for that actually, it's the internal flat button, which is simply color filled background with inverted foreground.

OK. Thank you for the info. I've been doing a bit more research:
-- the foreground colour of those buttons is either the Main 2 colour (on a 'dark' button background or a very dark grey (on a 'light' button background),
-- the background colour of those buttons is either a very dark grey (on a 'light' area background or a very light grey (on a 'dark' area background).

The top two screenshots here show the current appearance. The 'Background' colour (Main 0) is slightly darker in the second screenshot.

My suggestion is in the third screenshot - the lightness of the button is reduced when on a 'dark' area background (and the darkness of the button is made lighter on a 'light' area background). Perhaps lowering the alpha value for this button background, allowing some of the area background through would do it. Or just make it a mid-grey.

And a mock-up of the lighter button background on a light background.
