Since my musical efforts have largely happened on my iPad for the last year, I've somehow missed out entirely on the Tracktion macro system. My search for a hotkey to toggle the height of the newly resizable Controls Panel (and dRowAudio's excellent macro examples in this forum) led me to uncover and explore the awesomeness that is Tracktion's javascript macro system, and as a developer I'm giddy about the possibilities.

For those who have also been looking for a hotkey, it just requires a simple one line macro:

Code: Select all

Tracktion.toggleFullMinimalControlsPanel();
The worsening effects of arthritis have been the main driver in my move to working on the iPad, since using a touch interface or bluetooth keyboard requires less pain than struggling with a mouse. I'm thrilled that these hotkey triggered macros are making working with Tracktion a far less painful experience! I'm now furiously plugging many of them into an iPad app that can trigger the keystrokes on my Mac. Thanks Tracktion Dudes for building in this incredibly helpful functionality.

Glad you like it! It gives us a lot more flexibility and power to build custom actions now.
Out of interest, what iPad app are you using? It sounds like it could be useful.

I'm using Actions, which unfortunately is no longer available in the app store. (Though it still works for those who purchased it previously).

They've recently replaced it with a new more powerful version called Quadro, which works with both Mac and PC. It looks as if they're still working out the bugs, and it requires a 'yearly pass' of $20 to access the customization features (or a $50 one-time payment). Since Actions works fine for what I need, I haven't pulled the trigger yet on the upgrade... but since they're not updating the Mac-side client, I'm sure it's only a matter of time before an Apple update breaks it. ;)

This is how my Tracktion screens look so far. The new version allows you to resize the tiles much like Windows live tiles, which would be great as I'd love to cram more onto one screen.

That is very cool and super useful when combined with the macros feature!

thanks for sharing the codeline.

I hope the macro implementation will see many more shortcut additions. So very useful!

Yes, as more functionality is exposed to the macro engine, Tracktion could really enter an entirely different space as far as customizable DAW's go. Tracktion has always been my favorite audio workspace since I can see the 'big picture' of a song at a glance, keeping me in creative mode while I'm working on a song. The macro engine lets me easily and quickly tap into the fiddly bits and underlying power of the program without having to switch mental hats. Very exciting stuff!
