But they have the same analog type oscillators, no? (saw, sine, triangle, square). Do they have they same filters?BasariStudios wrote:There is NOTHING same about them...its 2 different types of synthezis...thats why they sound different.Integratron wrote:Others have said they share the same engine... they look and sound quite different to me????

Of course they would have the same Filters, no Company in their right mind
will create other filters but that does not make them sound the same.

So the question is, will Codex when analog waveforms are used sound the same as Element 2?BasariStudios wrote:Of course they would have the same Filters, no Company in their right mind

Codex can sound like Element 1 but not like Element 2. Still there are some differences between Codex and E1 as I noticed E1 sounds more round and "sweeter" than Codex.Igro wrote:So the question is, will Codex when analog waveforms are used sound the same as Element 2?BasariStudios wrote:Of course they would have the same Filters, no Company in their right mind

E2 has a different filter and more analog feel although still has roundness in the sound.
Anyway, for me after comparing tens of presets between E2 and E1, not all the presets in E2 are better (for me) than E1. Some calm presets sounds better in E1, so it was a smart decision to include E1 with E2
Using: Cubase Pro 15, Reason 13, Tascam US-4x4HR, MODX6, DM12D, LaunchKey 49, Yamaha guitar(Pacifica 612v) and bass (BB234) and some virtual instruments and synths.

You're not alone there, I preferred the black too.
Not everything looks good in black, but I thought Element did

I feel exactly the same way. It's the light reflection and the nice black anodized finish along with the old skool hardware knobs that make it look good, not to mention easy on the eyes when doing any sort of sound design with Element.simon.a.billington wrote:You're not alone there, I preferred the black too.

It does sound nice, even the bass sounds tight, the pad in the middle is also nice...

Cue the Chaka Khan vocals... Hahaha!!
Man, Ill say it again. Sounds great for just 2 oscillators and 1 sub.

Unfortunately, none of my DAW's is on Waves's supported DAW list
I know there is some trick to get the dll out of that shell or container thingy, but I am not sure if it works properly that way. For instance with regard to preset paths etc. I mean, there must be some point in Waves' system, else they would just install the dll like other developers.
Anyway, in this video they switch back and forth between the two sound engines a couple of times, interesting to hear how weak v1 sounded in comparison. You can skip the first 3 minutes, just talk

Has the excessive attack pop been fixed by now that people complained about in v1?

I wouldn't say one sounded "weak", not that I'm taking you literally. I still quite like v1, it still has its uses.
Think about it. In a production there is certainly a need for big and bold, but not for everything.
There are a lot of minor effects and background level sounds that need to sit in the back of a mix. In many cases, is silly to make these big and lush as well, it'll just work against the main instruments and make it harder to mix in general. This is a problem many mix engineers have receiving EDM projects.
So consider using something less bold for the secondary elements instead. This is where Element 1 is still useful. Find a sound you like in v2, but it's to rich sounding as a minor arrangement in context, then just switch to v1 mode... Quite brilliant having that option really.
But yes there's quite a difference.
I wouldn't call Element 1 weak, but I'd definitely call v2 more rich and lush.
