Hi Tracktion development team,

following suggestions are imho and with best intentions

Here some observations when working in the projects window. I think the workflow in the projects window could be streamlined.

------
as regards auditioning 'recorded audio' files in the browser. ( can also be applied for the file browser in the edit screen/left panel)

summary FR:
cursor keys for navigating up/down...Enter to (select and) trigger/start and stop playback
That should make for a nice and fast workflow and will be more comfortable than (currently) mouseclicking here and there.

1) FR: Spacebar should stop playback (doubleclicked 'recorded audio'file) of a file

imo it would be logical and good if the 'Enter' would stop the playback when auditioning a of the highlighted file in the 'recorded audio' window. Currently only the mouseclick on the play icon will stop it which is a bit awkward.

(2) same should work for the file browser in the edit screen: currently 'enter' only /triggers/starts the to be auditioned filed over and over again. bug?

-----

3) FR keyboard shortcut command: show selected object(s) in 'projects/ recorded audio' browser.

This would be nice to have such functionality from within the edit screen.

Yesterday, after having recorded some extra clips (named 'a' and 'b') I wanted to attach description texts to those in the 'projects/recorded audio' browser.
I started looking for them there and was not sure which one 'a' was and which one 'b' amongst all the other files listed (because the clipname is not shown there... could this be changed as well?).
In such use case this added functionality (FR) would be helpful I'd think.

(3a) could the files browser in the edit screen not also show the clip name and description in extra columns?
Then you would not have to leave the edit screen at all to attach notes to files.

-------

streamlining 'new project' workflow

summary of 4), 5),6) 7): open a new project with keyboard shortcuts and with a default template and automatically load that new edit.
This would help users put a new idea that just came to mind while working on another edit in no time.

4) FR keyboard shortcut: 'New Project'
There doesn't seem to be one yet under 'settings/ keyboard shortcuts' and currently you'l have to use the mouse.

5) FR: 'template field' in 'new project' window should show last used template and not be empty.
After having clicked 'new project' the 'template' field is currently empty. I can imagine that a user is more likely to use one template as a starting point than switching evertime. Therefore this FR that would have the template filed already filled in with last used template. The user then still can make changes to that field if wanted.

6) FR: 'enter'key or mnemonic for 'create' should create that new project
After 4) and 5) I automatically hit 'enter' to create that new project ... but nothing happens. Currently it is the mouse operation again.
Let's have 'enter' key and/or a mnemonic (alt+c) work as well.

7) FR: automatically load the new edit after having executed 'create project'
Currrently, after having hit 'create project' Tracktion will now only list/show the new edit in the Projects window.... but not load the edit automatically immediately afterwards. Imo this would be the logical next step and why make the user doubleclick the edit first?

If there are usererrors on my part I'd be glad to hear how these things can be done already.

Many thanks in advance and regards

I do this every time too and agree! Enter should create the project from the New Project Dialog box.

I agree with this too. The only thing I do on the project page is remove "Edit 1" from the edit name. I would be very happy if creating the project immediately opened the Edit. I would even happier if the initial edit was named with exact name I type in while creating the project.

3) FR keyboard shortcut command: show selected object(s) in 'projects/ recorded audio' browser
You can currently find the name of the file for a clip using View Source Info in Properties.

I agree that it would be nice to have a Show in Projects Assets button on the View Source Info window.

It probably makes sense to at some point offer a tab in the Edit browser that shows the asset list in a way that is similar to the center column on the Projects page.

While talking about the Projects page the Active Projects list would be more useful if it worked like a recent projects list. Any time I open and Edit for a project, it should go to the top of the list. New projects currently appear in at the bottom. But if I open and exiting project, it just stays in the middle of the list.

It would work much better for me if that list always was a descending list of with whatever I opened last at the top.
