Cool, yeah I knew about the lanes and the 4 layers, i guess if I do some routing I could use more than 4 oscillators if I so felt like it, like a few FM oscs and a few normal. Anyhow, just for the sake of discussion (not arguing): Just consider that in Dune 2, one layer has 3 oscs (not including the unison stuff) and you have 8 of those to your disposal, so 16 complex oscillators and 8 simple ones (the 3rd/sub oscillator). I realize that obviously you might not need/want to outdo every synth in the market in every single feature, just saying. I mean in theory you could make the grid expandable/scrollable (so that it doesn't eat up more screen space), I bet it would be a selling point for the whole modular crowd to make it more unlimited. Like, lets say I would like to make ultra-layered FM stuff, like this one: http://www.vintagesynth.com/yamaha/tx816.php which is basically 8 x DX7 and would make it possible to make patches like in this: I know you can't please everyone on everythingUrs wrote:Zebra is already designed to have 4 layers within a single patch - it's the four "lanes" in its Module Grid. Those layers can have entirely different synth structures, and signals can run from one layer to the other.mrj1nx wrote:I don't know about layering in Zebra 2 (don't have it yet sadly so haven't deep dived yet), but thinking about the layering in Dune 2 which is very powerful and also stuff like Rob Papen Prisma, essentially a way to store a "multi-instance" patch. For example to make sounds highly responsive to velocity, or to build up a sound in a sort of multiband fashion of making the low-mid-high components as different layers. Is there any plans for layering in Zebra 3?
Zebra3 will have easier means to duplicate stuff from one lane to another, so you can pretty much do everything, without too much tabbing.
The beauty of this approach is that envelopes etc. can be shared between the modules, which usually isn't the case in a synth with a stricter approach to layering.

Plenty of people ask to make it more unlimited... but my guess is that in practice, most of those people don't actually push the current limit anyway.mrj1nx wrote:I mean in theory you could make the grid expandable/scrollable (so that it doesn't eat up more screen space), I bet it would be a selling point for the whole modular crowd to make it more unlimited.
Zebra can already make some beautifully layered sounds. In practice, I think Zebra can already do patches similar to that in the video you posted (besides the fact that it was all sample based)
That video is from a hardware workstation... I consider my DAW to be my workstation. I do layering there, not in the individual synth. In my DAW, I can layer Zebra with ACE, or Zebra with a sampler and so on. I can use different fx chains on each layer. And then I can save the whole thing as a preset. The flexibility there is where it is truly unlimited. Zebra alone couldn't match what I can already do in my DAW.

So basically ZebraHZ becomes Zebra3 ? Interesting. I hope you will consider the extra investment HZ owners made in the transition.
Will Zebra3 have multicore support ?

We did ZebraHZ because he wanted Diva quality filters in Zebra, and Z3 will be loaded with Diva quality filters.

No, ZebraHZ will stay ZebraHZ.aesthete wrote:So basically ZebraHZ becomes Zebra3 ? Interesting. I hope you will consider the extra investment HZ owners made in the transition.

What I meant to say was, because Zebra3 will be "good enough" we will not need to create a new HZ version of Zebra3 as well.
I'm sure Z3 will have multicore support, if it needs it.

Yes it will, except may be it's not because it would be greatly optimizedpdxindy wrote:Z2 is already borderline... so Z3 will need itUrs wrote:I'm sure Z3 will have multicore support, if it needs it.

Until now, i was pretty cool with Zebra 3 being in the works.
But for some strange reason i get the feeling that we are close now, i am starting to go
!!
Are we close Mr.Urs? Are we? Are we?

MPE support please! (And I hope you don't forget to allow +/-48 note pitch bend range, unlike the other synths
)

I hope the gui looks clean like hive. Zebra2 gui reminds me of a DOS game.
