Also, Live CAN set the velocity flat, BUT I might want velocity flat on volume, but responsive on filter, for example.
When Live sets it flat, it's flat for everything.

mmh I understand. Well you could still do a single envelope that roughly counters the built-in velocity, and save/restore it. I never planned an option to disable the velocity to volume, but it's doable.
In FL it's not really a problem because each note has other parameters other than velocity, although you just gave me an idea: an option in FL to link MIDI velocity to one of these other params.

I doubt that he'll make a larger gui. Going by his previous posts, he's alergic to selling more product!kodama wrote:I'm not going to be rude about it, but I would not say that my eyes could be persuaded into thinking Sytrus is large enough on my monitor.
Gol, Is it a pain to make Sytrus have a size toggle?
Cater to both schools?
Or at least a compromise school?
One small size, one large?

HI all
Havong done presets for Rhino, Sytrus and also the new eJ, I can tell you that each has thier stregths and sound. yes you can get similear sounds on each, but the effects and processing is different ( more or less) and the way you approach sound creation is a bit different, even though all have a matrix, the matrix is not exactly the same.

must be cultural. Here, doing something you don't believe in only for marketing reasons is considered as selling your soul, or like prostitution. Should I make an oversized UI because YOU like them? No, the idea is more that you don't buy the product because the UI is too small for you.I doubt that he'll make a larger gui. Going by his previous posts, he's alergic to selling more product!
Now if I could make an UI in 30min I'd probably do it, but it took me way too much time.
And if you want real marketing reasons not to, IL doesn't believe too much in the VSTi market, so it's not worth it financially.

you're too politically correctI can tell you that each has thier stregths and sound
But you're right, for the FM part, the difference is in the UI and the effects, since FM is FM.
The differences are in those extra things like the unison, flangus, and plucked string in Sytrus.

Here's a question for you. What do you think is an oversize gui? Albino? Rhino? Atmosphere? Oversized as a term is defined in relation to others of the same type. Do you think that most vsti's are oversized?gol wrote:Should I make an oversized UII doubt that he'll make a larger gui. Going by his previous posts, he's alergic to selling more product!

anything that wouldn't have fit on my old monitor in 800x600What do you think is an oversize gui?
no, it's just sized way over what it could beOversized as a term is defined in relation to others of the same type
yes, but I can understand that it's partly because a big UI looks more important and more expensive. Even myself would dumbly consider a plugin as more important if it has a big UI, and it's a pity.Do you think that most vsti's are oversized?

You really do have a flair for the melodramatic. As for selling your soul, why didn't you simply create Sytrus and keep it to yourself? If you feel so strongly that devil commerce is so degrading, why accept money from users for Sytrus? In exchange for taking money, you exchange your goods. Economics 101. If you want to continue earning an income, you listen to your users and they will buy ugrades, new products etc.
You are actively not listening to suggestions from potential customers.
And btw-it is not cultural. Several of the vsti devs are European as well as yourself. And THEY know how to listen.
More for those devs like Tick who know how to do business in this area. And more users to spend money on their products as well. Now if I could make an UI in 30min I'd probably do it, but it took me way too much time.

There's the problem right there-you obviously figured that everyone was still using 800 x600. Hello-it's 2004, even 1024 x 768 is getting less common. I used 800 x 600 on Windows 95 back in 1995! Jeez-at least make some attempt to find out what a common size monitor your users have.gol wrote:anything that wouldn't have fit on my old monitor in 800x600What do you think is an oversize gui?
Such as what size? Anything over 800 x 600? Why because you use it? Are you only selling product to third world countries?no, it's just sized way over what it could beOversized as a term is defined in relation to others of the same type

Hey Gol,
Maybe the GUI thing is too much of a pain to do, but is there a chance you could consider Midi Mapping and an option for disabling the velocity thing?
I had been talking to Frederic to get the Sytrus demo working in Live, and he said that Midi mapping was something they will start considering.
Thanks!

I'm not against that at all. I just understand that you can make a product that you like and live with the fact it won't please to everyone. If you feel so strongly that devil commerce is so degrading, why accept money from users for Sytrus?
It's like movie-making. Some, like Disney, want to please to everyone, and every Disney movie is totally insipid, there's nothing left in it, since anything interesting could possibly hurt some of the viewers.
Others do good movies that not everyone likes, but does that mean they're not interested in money? I don't care if YOU buy Sytrus, as long as enough people do.
and you figured that no one was using 800x600. I'm now in 1280x1024, but I still don't neglect those who opted for a good old CRT instead of a crap LCD. My old CRT was really good, and good CRT's are hard to find (while good LCD's don't exist - they all have a crap latency), that's why I was sticking to it. Unfortunately it broke and I got an LCD instead. I'd trade it for a good CRT at any time, even if it was smaller. There's the problem right there-you obviously figured that everyone was still using 800 x600
You also seem to think that a bigger monitor is a natural evolution. Do you think you'll be using a 2-meters wide monitor in the near future? Even if they went cheap, I know I wouldn't. I'd just watch TV on them. Since I got a bigger monitor I got my eyes more tired rolling from one corner to another.
believe me if we were only targetting at pro's, we would set higher pricesSuch as what size? Anything over 800 x 600? Why because you use it? Are you only selling product to third world countries?
MIDI mapping no (unless Fred [who translated the fruity version into the VSTi version] wants to bother), but I just asked him for the velocity unlink.Maybe the GUI thing is too much of a pain to do, but is there a chance you could consider Midi Mapping and an option for disabling the velocity thing?
A good host should really make it easy to link hardware knobs to plugin parameters, and if a host doesn't, it will probably in the future.
did he? well it's up to him. Note that I only asked him to link modulation & breathe CC's. If you want, ask him to link all of the other CC's to other parameters, if you can live with a FIXED chart, then it's easy. Just tell him a chart, he'll implement it and we'll attach the chart with the VSTi version.I had been talking to Frederic to get the Sytrus demo working in Live, and he said that Midi mapping was something they will start considering.

Ya know Gol, I think ANY fixed chart and a way to get rid of the velocity thing would be fine.
So is there a chance of him doing this?
Thanks for your help, Gol.
